In short, No. But they will show up on you stay/night counter and you can get points for incidentals such as phone calls, in room movies or room service.
I did a search and couldn't find a mention of the following.
Effective January 1, 2003, your Reward stays will count toward VIP tier qualification. And HHonors VIP members will receive the VIP point bonus on Base points earned for incidental spending during HHonors hotel Reward Stays. It all adds up to putting you on a faster track to enjoying exclusive VIP privileges!
" Beginning January 1, 2003, every HHonors Base point you earn starting this date will help qualify you for VIP status. You'll earn Gold VIP status after earning 60,000 Base points in a calendar year. You'll earn Diamond VIP status after earning 100,000 Base points in a calendar year. Of course, you can still qualify based on your number of qualifying stays or nights."

How so? Those redeeming any significant amount of points more than likely are already elite anyway.
Sorry, if I didn't think this completely through, but Diamond for 100,000 base points would require $8,000.00 or more in Hilton spending wouldn't it? ( I get 12.5 points per $ as a gold)The CNTU 50,000 points and the like are bonus points not base points, correct? So, unless the 100,000 pts just "happened" because of paid stays at one's company's expense or the like, why would anyone pay an average $133.33 per night to get Diamond this way? Wouldn't it be easier to do 28 $100 stays or 60 $100 nights?
Are Hilton's generally more expensive than my experience has been? ( I averaged $80 to $100 per night to get to Gold).

Actually, it would take $10,000 in HH lodging spending, as elite bonus points (e.g., 25% as a gold) are just that, bonus, not base points.
Has anyone heard whether points earned through the Hilton credit cards will count as base points or as bonus points? I am assuming bonus, but if they were instead base, that would be great news.

Overall I must say this is working well. It is also enticing me to stay on paid stays with Hilton for extended periods in South Africa for two conferences I have in Durban this summer and fall.
