I'm staying at the Hilton at the Fisherman's Wharf, using my Hilton Points for a free night's stay. What kind of room do you think I'll get? Top floor(s), in the middle, or towards the bottom? Keep in mind i'm A Hilton Diamond Member.
Also -- what are some good restaurants around that area? I'm assuming there is some good seafood....
I stay at this hotel a lot, and indeed have just spent the weekend there. I rather like it.
That said, I have never eaten there, and the 17th floor club is always cramped, noisy and hot. Still, it is a great base for work in SF or Berkeley (just short hop on the BART).
Let me suggest "Johnny Foley's" 243 O'Farrel, two blocks from the hotel, http://www.johnnyfoleys.com (try the curry)
and "the Irish Bank" 10 Mark Lane (off Bush St.), as excellent places to recover from jet lag

I stayed at the SFO downtown for 2 nights April 20th. Was on the 17th floor, right next to the elevators (1717).... the noise is VERY LOUD, and I thought it was an ice machine banging.
However, for the wonderful price I got my room at ($107) with lounge very near by, I really can't complain too much.
The lounge is quite small and always packed with people, limitting seating of course. I wondered if perhaps people who were not entitled to use the executive lounge were using it, since it was so crowded. There was no checking of room numbers to see if you actually were entitled to use this lounge.
The area around this property is not really very nice for a female walking alone at night.

Hi todonnel,
you should get a room on the top floor (3rd floor above the lobby( Lobby and floors 1,2,3 on the lift).Make sure you get the vouchers for breakfast at check in as you have a complimentary continental breakfast in the lounge/bar area if you give your voucher to the waiter.
No swimming pool at the Hilton FW.
Have a great trip.

I know there are plenty of existing threads but maybe the search function isn't working properly? (or I'm not working properly?)
Anyway, HH Gold here. Checkin a breeze, "concierge" level room, which consists now apparently many floors in Tower 1 (the Sardine Can). Room pretty basic but decent with a spectacular view. The new lounge (on the "V" floor, which is 45?) was just beautiful and a great improvement from the previous lounge, open 7 days a week with a nice "happy hour" spread of evening snackies as well as a pretty standard continental breakfast. Views from the lounge are spectacular. Hotel security is also markedly improved from a few years back. There were always security guards by the elevators. (This will hopefully prevent a similar experience like my elevator ride with the toothless hooker of a few years ago.) All in all, other than the neighborhood on the west (which really is better than 15 years ago when I lived not far from there), a very good stay.
Drinks are $6 for alcohol, there are bottled waters, soda and coffee pretty much all day there for the taking. The square construction appears to be, I'd say, 80% complete.
It was a few years back. Between the toothlessness, the filthy faux-furs, and delightful aroma, it was a great elevator ride. I do not know if the eventual patron earned points for charging it to the room or what, but it is possible that "it" never made it to the intended destination because it asked me for help locating a room # scribbled on a scrap of paper. I further say "it" because really, you never know, especially in that neighborhood.
We stayed there a couple of weekends ago. The room was small and in Tower 3 overlooking the courtyard/pool on floor 15.
The hallways in Tower 2 were okay, but Tower 3 halls were about as exciting as a college dorm. Nothing on the walls, just a bunch of doors in a hallway.
Non-smoking rooms in Tower 1 were hard to come by when we checked in.
Breakfast was okay in the new lounge at least for food. The view was excellent.
I flew through San Francisco this past weekend, and booked a $109 per night rate at the San Francisco Hilton on O'Farrell Street.
When I checked in at about 4:00 p.m. Saturday, there were two massive lines of people waiting to check in, with one clerk working the HHonors line, three on the regular line. I waited for something like 40 minutes to get to the front of the HH line.
Because I am an HH Gold, asked about availablity of an upgrade, was told the only room available in the Exec level was a smoking one. (Sigh...) Took it anyway. The room smelled heavily of smoke when I opened the door. (Gag...) A/C had been off all day, immediately turned it on high and propped open the door to get the stench out.
Room was neat and clean, but SMALL. I mean, Hotel 6 SMALL. The bathroom door would not close like a normal door, it has a goofy twin-door configuration that won't latch closed but opens and then one half automatically slams shut. I like the close and lock the bathroom door behind me, if you do too, you won't be able to.
Executive Lounge had free chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, sodas, and a magnificent view of the East Bay from the 45th floor.
Checkout was done automatically, no hassles or wrong charges.
I paid a small amount for this room, happily, so I won't complain TOO MUCH about the size of the room or the annoying bathroom door. But I am surprised that at only 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon there was only a smoking room available on the executive level. Hilton gets a big frowny-face from me for that.
As for the surly SF Hilton service that is mentioned in some reviews, didn't see any. Got myself an extra couple of pillows when I called and asked, delivered with a smile.
Food for Sunday breakfast was very good, top marks there.
Parking my rental car was very expensive at $30 per night.
