Going on a romantic holiday in London and have narrowed down the choices to these two. I like them both. I am wondering what people's opinions are of the advantages of each, specifically for a romantic holiday. A little about us, I travel to London frequently, my BF has not been there for many many yrs. We like theater, good food, and just wandering around. We like nice hotels!
The locations are both great. In the past I have been treated very well at the Waldorf w/suite upgrades twice. More recently, I got a small noisy room - I stay here frequently. It has a nice Executive Lounge & terrific service. However, it is an older, slight shabby hotel but the location is great for theatre.
Doubletree: terrific location for everything. Only stayed here once for 1 day recently. Nicely renovated hotel. Good stay but was unhappy that they gave a suite upgrade to a Gold and only 1 level upgrade for me (Diamond) when checking in the same time. I wonder if this is indicative of their service overall.
We have been really looking forward to this trip and I'd like to make it special.

I'd go with the Waldorf. I've stayed there a number of times (also gotten the suite upgrade, which was pretty money) and have always been happy. I haven't stayed at the Doubletree, though people I work with have so I've seen it a little bit. I like the location of the Waldorf a bit better, especially for shows and the like. Only place I've stayed that was better for shows is my current location, but that's a corporate flat so you can't have it The Waldorf is also very close to Covent Garden and the Strand for strolling.
Thanks, I was leaning towards the Waldorf. I'm hoping the room for my last stay there was an anomaly. The hotel is a little run down but the overall service seemed, to me at least, to be much better than the Doubletree's. I also like how they treat Diamonds vs Doubletree.
I stayed in the Doubletree a few months back with my girlfriend and had a great time. I was a lowly silver at the time, so didn't get an upgrade, but our room was nice and I loved the ambience of the hotel, especially the lobby bar, which is converted from the old Jail cells in the building. We're staying there again over the weekend before Christma as it is really convenient for going out in London. Hopefully now that I'm a diamond member they'll give us an upgrade

I have stayed at the DT twice as a Gold. Both times upgrades and provided with free breakfast. As a Diamond I feel sure you will get a room upgrade. I like the hotel, location is good and made use of the pool and spa.
Having said that my next stay in London I have booked the Waldorf. I have never stayed at the waldorf before, my usual hotels have been Kensington, Paddington and the Metropole. I have already confirmed an Executive floor room so hoping for a good stay.
