New redemption levels plus a free night

New redemption levels plus a free night

Only Hilton HHonors™ lets you earn Points & Miles™ for the same stay and
enjoy hotel rewards with No Blackout Dates. And that’s not changing.
However, for the first time in six years, we do have an update to point
redemption amounts and hotel categories beginning January 15, 2010.
You can still make hotel reward reservations at the current levels if booked
by January 14, 2010.*

To thank you for your loyalty, you’ll receive a free night certificate in a separate email.**

I find this so misleading.. I would say adding the Waldorf category was a change to categories, and also a point redemption change.. I know that I was able to get the NYC Waldorf for 40K a few years back but after that change it was more points.

The wording does indeed confirm, if it was needed, that the new chart implies a "category creep" of one level, or they wouldn't feel the need to talk about this in an apologetic tone and give a free night.

I applaud the free night, although restricted. The rest of the stuff, not so good.

I am waiting to see just what a "free night" constitutes... If its free, its me, but I like me to be in a high end hotel...

Ok, I just finished reading the entire email, so I am happy with the free night gift...

HHonors is giving us a free night because they're adding an additional category? I re-read the e-mail and it sure seems to me that that's the case. Any major caveats to the free night redemption? Hopefully it won't be a free "Opportunity" level cert.

The double asterisk in the email notice says the following:

**Free night certificate is valid for one free night at Hilton Worldwide hotels between 1/5/2010 and 6/15/2010, except at Category 7 hotels (according to the new point redemption levels), all-inclusive hotels, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, and Hilton Grand Vacation hotels. Free night includes room rate and tax, and does not include gratuities or incidental charges.

Ouch!!! My condolences, but mine did. I wonder what the criteria was for that?

No free night for me either -- nuttin' but a rock. FWIW, I'm a Diamond with about 2 stays a week (in fact, sitting in a Doubletree as we speak).

I am a Diamond and my email made no mention of the free night. What was the criteria to be offered a free night?

To think this is how they treat their Diamonds... Did they really think we wouldn't notice? Hilton will rectify this if they are smart.
