Official Post from Hilton HHonors, 2010 Hotel Category and Point Redemption Changes
As our most active members, we wanted to let you the Flyertalk community, know before the official correspondence was released that we are updating the point redemption amounts and hotel categories. This change will take effect January 15, 2010.
You can still make hotel reward reservations at the current levels through January 14, 2010, provided your stay is completed by January 14, 2011.
What a joke now all WA are now 50,000 points in low season. I could not believe they were 40,000 when rates are often around $100. Now 50,000 get real. Rates at many hotels are double or even triple in high season yet they require only 10,000 more points. It makes no sense.
Starwood, Hyatt and even Priority Club have not had as many and as major devaluations as Hilton has put into place in the past several years. And now here Hilton goes at it again.
Go ahead and try to figure out what is happening with those GLON/GLONP-type awards:

The Bentley in London is so ridiculously overpriced in this chart that it makes you wonder what the person who drew that nonsense up had to drink before they set the redemption levels.
Sighhhh...... Hilton was good to me while it lasted. I have been Gold for 5 years now and this next year I will drop to Silver. I think it is time to burn these points and say good-bye to Hilton. From changes to the HHonors program regarding upgrades, to increased costs for hotel stays (and now given the current economic conditions), to the lack of really meaningful and competitive promotions, I think the time is right to move on.

I guess Blackstone feels that by raising the amount of pts needed everyone will simply stay more nights, well they are Correct , but the more nights will be what I'll be doing at *W & Marriott and it will be no nights at Hilton (except for free stays).
Guess this is what happens when you way over pay for something and buy it at its Peak. Sort of like all the projects going on in Vegas
These levels are making me consider getting rid of my Hilton Amex and move back to SPG Amex.
Actually, I'm keeping the Surpass card -- $79 a year for Gold is a good deal. I get stuck with the Hilton/Marriott/ICHG choice a couple of times a year; those are the only stays HH is going to get.

SPG has had a comparable Amex for longer, and they actually reduced rates for many hotels this year. They also have suite upgrades, promos, and my loyalty.

What is the basis for this claim? It is not unheard for hotels to be moved down, according to the World Famous BlondeBomber Hilton Chart 23 hotels moved down in 2009, including two hotels that moved down two categories (the rest moved down one category). I see no reason to believe that some hotels may not be moved down again in 2010.

+1 (except in my case I had already moved on.)
<-- See where it says HH: DIA on my programs? Come March, 2010 it will say HH:Nada. Total stays at Hilton to date: 4 (only because of the 25,000 points promo, otherwise would have been 0).
