Why not try and negotiate a trade or slight upcharge to the Mustang?
Or, why not book something cheaper and Gold Choice your way into a Camaro or negotiate an upgrade to a Mustang?

Hahahaha
OP - in the end, it'll come down the same advice I, and others, have given countless times - rent the lowest class you will take, and hope for the best in negotiating an upgrade. If you must have the Mustang convertible, and only the mustang convertible, then pony up the money and reserve that model. If you don't like the normal PCAR selection, don't reserve the PCAR

I'm renting a convertible for my honeymoon at the start of June in San Diego. Only thing was that I'm renting from an off airport site so they will most likely have to locate a convertible for me.
I've got that Gold Class membership thing, not that I rent much, but I'm going to phone up a few days before pickup and state its for my honeymoon so would really appreciate a Mustang.
If that doesn't work then I'll drive it to the airport and see if I can swap into a Mustang.
