Flyining ATA LAX-OGG on April 6; Load and Check-In Time Due to AQ Shutdown?
There are 4 of us flying this route together this coming Sunday. With the recent demise of Aloha do you think my flight will now be oversold? It is a 7AM flight and I am just wondering how early I should plan on arriving.

Always sad news when an airline is pau. I would have been happy for ATA to pull out of ITO. But I knew some folks in Indianapolis from when I lived there who are hurting tonight
I also suspect there are some folks in Hilo this week for Merrie Monarch who came from the mainland on ATA.
Wonder if ATA had staff or if it was all contract work at the Hawaii stations?
And since the announcement stated that air travel would cease at 10 p.m. HST, I feel sorry for all those scheduled on the later ATA flights (e.g., to PHX) that won't be taking off tonight ( http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AMT4586 ) because of the shutdown.
That's gotta be a different feeling to be waiting in the boarding area of a flight and then to hear that the flight won't be leaving because the airline no longer exists. Wow.

I don't know about other stations, but it was contract work at ITO by HA. I can't imagine that this is welcome news for HA either, both for the loss of ongoing income and (I assume) past bills that won't get paid.
Another oddity: ATA had the last gate mauka and there was no ag machine for putting carry-ons through; all carry-ons were hand-inspected.

Wow that is odd. Was the screening random or did they screen all bags? I'd imagine it'd be rather tough to hand-screen bags for fruits and veggies, no?

Well, I think you are SOL. ATA apparently stopped flying this morning.
I was checking UA loads to Maui out of LAX and SFO for Saturday, April 5. UA had a few seats, but most flights are zeroed out. The fares, of course, were very high for the seats they were selling.

Aloha,
Today, ATA Airlines announced that it has ceased all operations, cancelling all current and future flights. There are an estimated 9,600 ATA ticket holders in Hawaii who will need to rebook on other airlines to return to the mainland over the next week or two. Most ticketholders are on Oahu and Maui with smaller numbers on Kauai, in Hilo and Kona.
ATA is instructing its ticket holders to contact other airlines to rebook. Those airlines are not required to accept ATA tickets and passengers may be required to purchase one-way tickets to return home. A list of those airlines is provided below.
We have established a dedicated webpage for ATA updates at www.gohawaii.com/ata. Please check it frequently for the most current information.
Many accommodations and airlines have already extended generous special considerations to passengers affected by the termination of Aloha Airlines’ passenger service earlier this week. We ask again, that you kokua to assist the ATA passengers.
If you currently have a lodging or airline offer on the gohawaii.com/alohaairlines page, please provide a revised document that applies to ATA. One document can cover both airlines if you wish.
If you are not currently listed on the Aloha Airlines page and would like to provide a lodging or airline offer to ATA passengers, please provide an 800 number (answered by staff who are knowledgeable about your offer) and a PDF of your offer (or a link to such an offer on your website).
Email the information to Darlene Morikawa (dmorikawa@hvcb.org) and Barbara Okamoto (bokamoto@hvcb.org).
Back when we first came to Hawaii, my wife did a bit of research and insisted that we fly TZ because they had never had a fatal accident. (Still haven't.) Of course, given their limited routes and number of flights, that may not have been statistically meaningful... but I wound up on them several times over the years. (In fact, I've flown TZ more than AQ.)
I'll always remember my last flight on TZ as "the time I brought a girl home from the plane." (We were hugely delayed by a mechanical; I live near final approach for ITO and had a ride; her ride to the wilds of lower Puna told her they couldn't get her 'til morning, so she crashed out in my daughter's room.)

lisapisa4: Welcome to FlyerTalk and mahalo for posting this pertinent information. Hopefully, you will find a lot of good information here and stick around as an active poster.
I have tried calling AA & NW regarding accepting my TZ ticket. Neither airline had received any information on ATA's demise or their policies for TZ tickets. US has yet to establish their policy - expect something later today once the Sand Castle in Phoenix wakes up in the morning.

Wow indeed! One should move quick on spring/summer reservations to HI from the Midwest right? I'm guessing fares will increase on the other carriers here. Or am I overestimating ATA's significance? Thanks in advance!

I spoke with a US res agent about this earlier this morning. She hadn't heard a word about the ATA shutdown and confirmed there's no official policy yet, but she said US typically accommodates on a standby basis for $100 (which is what they're doing for AQ customers), so she expected similar treatment for TZ customers.
