Agree. Unless you accidentally left the secured area -- which is not hard to do the first time through. In which case, it'd be more than a few minutes

I'd go with the 75 minute recommendation. 45 minutes could be cutting it close, it will mean going at a fast clip, and if you are at all late inbound it will add to your stress levels as you frantically try to get to the opposite end of the airport -- not a good way to start your Hawai`i vacation!
I thought it was closer. But I haven't flown UA into HNL in a few years.
I enjoyed the walk, which was under 10 minutes, and probably closer to 5, after sitting for such a long time.
But, if a person doesn't know where they're going and are unfamiliar with the terminal structure, it's real easy to go outside of security. As a matter of fact, I almost walked the wrong way (toward baggage claim) after I left the gate. That would have turned my nice 5 minute stroll into a 20 minute (minimum) ordeal.

Thanks all! (and sorry for the posting in the wrong category)
Time between connection option 1 is ~25 minutes. Connection option 2 is 90 minutes.
The reason I wanted option 1 is because it would get me to OGG before the Advantage rent a car desk closed, and my car would cost half of what it'd cost if I got on the later flight.
After your reviews, I think I'm going to go with the longer layover (90 minutes) and pay the extra $60 for the rental car (not that much anyway). Besides, I'm flying NF to HNL and could use the extra hour for those glasses of wine to wear off!
Oh ya, and I won't be checking luggage so I don't have to worry about that. Thanks again!
As you can see, you will walk from one end of the airport to the other. Basically it's a long hallway, with the first part an outdoor covered walkway. It winds around a bit, but really isn't all that complicated. Just ask for directions if you get confused, but essentially you're just going to keep heading straight ahead. Fifteen minutes is doable (it's not a big airport), but 20-25 will allow you time to stroll rather than run. Even the main terminal hallway that you'll be walking through most of the time is open to the outside, so you'll enjoy the stroll in the warm, balmy weather.
Edited to note that I never take the WikiWiki, unless forced too when arriving on an overseas flight. They are unpredictable and the drivers can be cranky.

Oh no!
If you are flying UA to HNL in F, then you simply must try the purser's Mai Tai.
Ask him or her if (s)he has a special recipe, and tell them you'd like to try it.
If they say they don't, then just make do with the standard Trader Vic's recipe. Either way, you have a ~5 hour flight, which can mean up to 10 Mai Tai's.
So you'll need that 90 minute layover (plus the 30 minutes on the next flight) to regain your equilibrium.
Thank you for this information. Does an hour or hour and a half connection do it?
I am contemplating a trip between ORD. I would like to fly ORD-HNL on AA and HNL to KOA on Hawaiin. Will AA check my bags all the way through to Kona. Should I allow more time? Thanks.
Maybe this was discussed before but I did not find an answer for my problem:
We will arrive from LAX with Hawaiian at 8:30 pm. Because Go! changed the time for our connecting flight from 9:55 pm to 9:00 pm we will have only 30 min to get to the Commuter terminal to cath the plane. Although we can walk quite fast we wonder if this would be possible. Does anyone know about another possibility to get to Kauai after 9 pm? We will have a long journey from Germany and do not want to spend a night in an airport hotel.
All suggestions are more than wellcome!!!

Guten tag, and willkommen to FlyerTalk, uurmell!
My first thought is that Hawaiian does not/will not interline baggage with go!, so you will have to retrieve your bags at carousel "B", about half-way between your arrival gate and the commuter terminal, and drag them over to go! yourself; except that 1/2 hour is almost definitely not going to be enough time.....unless you get really lucky. Soooo........you might be spending a night at one of the two Honolulu Airport Hotels.
Ok If I would have known that schedule change before I would have booked a flight with Aloha or Hawaiian from HNL to LIH. Now we have the the chance to spend a free night in an airport hotel in Honolulu. Jippie!
But nevertheless, thank you!
I was going to suggest you check Aloha or Hawaiian, since you might pay as much for a hotel as you would for new tickets. However, their latest flights appear to be 8:15pm and 8:00pm, so they aren't better options. I think overnighting it near HNL is inevitable.
At this point, you may want to contact Go!, and find out what (if anything) they might do for you. Since it's a completely separate ticket, they are under no obligation to make any accomodations for you. You should contact them, tell them your the arrival for your flight from the mainland got pushed back to 9pm, and what are your options. Some possibiltiies:
- they'll change your flight to one the next day for no cost
- you can change to a different flight (one next day), but will have to pay some fee
- no options: you'll have to buy a brand new ticket.
I've never stayed at an HNL airport, so I don't have any recommendations. You'd probably want one that provides free shuttle service to-from HNL, so you don't have to get involved in providing your own ground transportation.
Both properties are adjacent to HNL airport property, about a block apart from each other; operate as sister properties; and have courtesy phones at HNL for free shuttle service: on demand, HNL-hotel; twice an hour on the half-hours, hotel-HNL, 24 hours a day.

This is go! we're talking about. In my experience(2nd hand) they're more likely to:
-Cancel the 9:00pm flight 4 days in advance
-Not notify you of such
-When you call to inform them of the mis-connect, they say, "ok, give us $25 per ticket to change to the next day" even though they canceled the original flight.
-provide no hotel even if the last flight out is canceled for operational reasons(not weather)
To all who experience the same or similar egregious behavior by go! airlines, please write the DOT.

What was your booking channel and how flexible is it? Is it possible, based on the schedule change ruining your connection, you can cancel go! and rebook Hawaiian inter-island the next morning? That way you could check all luggage except an overnight case all the way through, and just plan to spend the night at HNL?
