good idea

This actually sounds like a good idea. I wonder if other airports will follow suit.

Seen it at other airports like IAD for awhile already.

At HNL, my hubby has always had his own cell phone waiting area in the parking lot of the little strip mall with the Starbucks and Jamba Juice. Parking and snacks!

I've always used the road that exits off to the left approx across from intl arrivals, that has the metered spots(and many other folks doing the waiting game too). Has this been closed due to the parking structure construction?

P.S. Anyone have first hand account of using the economy lot?

We've had it in Orlando for well over a year - maybe 18 months or so. Beats circling around endlessly, but it's a little too far from the terminal to be super-convenient.

If it hasn't been already, it will be soon. That was a good waiting spot, and so was the lei stand area. Nothing beats waiting at the Airport Trade Center, though, as TF mentioned, with its Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and Ninja Sushi.

OGG has always let you wait for arrivals in the parking lot: drive in, take a ticket, first 1/2 hour free. Need to wait longer than a 1/2 hour? Exit after 25 minutes; re-enter on a new ticket.

That's true of all of Hawaii's airports.

Than what's the big deal about this "new" HNL cell phone waiting parking lot?

I guess the idea is so that you can swing around to the arrivals curb quickly. Whereas if you have to exit parking at HNL, that could take maybe as much as 10 min? Not so at OGG, I imagine.

Fact. At OGG you can hang out in the parking lot in front of the arrivals area, look for your party, and then exit the parking lot and pick up your guests in probably 3-4 minutes. 6 minutes faster than HNL.

It's good to see some of the $1,500,000,000 (billion!) dollars in improvements at HNL going to good use!

Is it me or are they doing interior refurbishments in the ewa concourse?(other than the obvious LCDs throughout the airport) It seemed cleaner and brighter than I remember, like they had dry walled where there had been wood paneling or something?

They have been doing interior refurbs of the Diamond Head concourse too. I'm guessing Linda Lingle's plan to tear down those two end concourses and rebuild them from the ground up fell short?
