Hawaiian Lu'au
Congratulations on your birthday.
One suggestion is the Tuesday Lu'au at the Mauna Kea Resort. A rather biased recommendation, as I have been going to this resort with family and friends since the 1960s (senior's tour, indeed). Should you decide to stay a night or more at the resort, the ground floor Beachfront rooms are perfect for couples and families with young children. The resort's Kauna'oa Bay is very special.
Enjoy your stay in Paradise.

While I have never personally gone, friends of mine have said that this is the best luau they have ever been to. http://www.konavillage.com/luau.asp
Also, I believe that you will find that the Royal Kona Resort luau and the King Kamehameha Hotel have the same luau show on different nights. I prefer the luau at the King Kam because of the beautiful grounds, and the show with the canoes coming into the bay.

I couldn't decide if I should post it here or in the "Does anyone else hate Luaus?" thread...
We went to the one at Kona Village Resort a few years ago. Mostly people from the resort itself, but we weren't shuntered off into the corner or anything. The tables surround a pond with an island in the middle where the show takes place. Not cheap, but we enjoyed seeing how they cooked the pig and learning something about the whole thing. Also, the menu was pretty varied. Lots of things that I'm guessing most people wouldn't eat, like limpets. Traditional, not very tasty, but also not teriyaki chicken and pasta salad. They did have all the standards and there was plenty of food. The Koloa pig was a little stringy, but also juicy. The show was polynesian rather than just Hawaiian, but that was OK. They also had all the children staying there put on a short hula show - cute, but cuter if they're yours. Anyway, it was a nice drive out through the lava fields.

Best Luau in the Waikoloa Area of the Big Island?
Staying at Waikoloa and looking for a good luau? Which one is the best luau on the Kona side to go to? Do not want to drive myself, would need transpo.

Due to the fact that you mention transportation as an issue, I would suggest going to the luau at Hilton Waikoloa Village or at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott (which is next door to the Hilton). A few years ago when I went (at the Hilton) I was told that the luau at Marriott (then Outrigger) was put on by the same production company, so basically it was the same show on a different day.
We enjoyed the luau, the food was OK/good and the entertainment was good. I don't know if they still sell tickets to the luau, but we got our tickets at the Activity Warehouse in the King's Village shops area (across from HWV) for $12 less per ticket than whatever the going rate was at the time.
You may want to ask this question on the Hawaii board, as other people may know of a better experience.

The new home of this thread is now the Hawai’i forum.
I did not necessarily move it because this is the wrong forum in which to post your question, MIKEM. Rather, I moved it because I believe you will get better, more-informed answers to your question there — and possibly in less time as well.
My main job as a FlyerTalk moderator is to ensure that you get the most informative answers to your question in the least amount of time. Hopefully, I have been helpful here by allowing FlyerTalk members who are knowledgeable about Hawai’i to be helpful to you.
Enjoy Hawai’i and your luau, MIKEM!

I personally am not a big fan of luaus. However, the Kona Village luau is the sure bet for the Waikoloa Coast. It's also mentioned in the post that FlyinHawaiian posted above.
To help facilitate the discussion a bit more, I've also added a few words to your title that might help draw in a few more responses.
