Car or Limousine Service HNL to Waikiki?

My parents and a group of their friends are interested in using a car or limousine service from HNL to their Waikiki hotel. There will be 9 of them and they'd probably prefer to split into two or three vehicles, especially considering all the luggage that will be involved (if my mother is any indication, there will be lots of luggage!). Does anyone here have a recommended company? I did a web search and there are lots of them out there, but I'd prefer a personal recommendation. Thanks!

When we go to Honolulu we use HOKULE'A TRANSPORTATION. The man that we deal with is named Tiki Espinueva. The phone number for this company is (808) 487-5771. Tiki treats us very well. We get picked up in a Lincoln. Their rates are very reasonable and they are very prompt.

Perhaps you could call them and tell them of your situation and see how they would handle it and what the costs would be.

Have a great trip!

HNL to waikiki via bus

Is there a website with bus schedules? How late does the bus run via these two points, and how much does it cost?

Finally, is it a straight shot from the airport to waikiki beach (near the zoo, etc.) via bus, and if so, which bus number?

thanks!

There are some very savvy Oahu and Honolulu bus riders on the Hawaii discussion board at about.com

Thanks for the forum link! Quite helpful.

Other question: Trying to decide which part of Waikiki is best (particularly for swimming/boogie boarding).

Any ideas?

Stay down at the far (Diamond Head) end of Waikiki. Better surf and quieter. The Bus is super easy, you can't take luggage on though. I have taken one carryon without issue. Aloha!

If I've been following your itinerary over here on O`ahu over the five or six posts you have here in the Hawai'i board, it seems apparent that you'll only be staying for a very short time. In that case, I highly suggest you do not take the bus since route 20, I belive, will take awhile for you to get to Waikiki from the airport. You're better off renting a car through Priceline or taking a shuttle to Waikiki. With a tight schedule, I would personally would want to spend more time hitting the waves than making a bunch of stops along Ala Moana Blvd.

Aloha

You are absolutely right, I want to get to the beach as quick as possible. Only have 24 hours (less, really).

How long IS the bus? Is there an express shuttle of some sort?

Finally, what's a taxi cost?

Thank you!!!

I believe a taxi costs around $25-$30 from the airport to Waikiki. There is an airport shuttle that I believe is around $6-$8 per person but I didn't use it and don't have the information on it. I only rode the bus once - from the airport to the Hilton which is on the end of the beach closest to the airport. It took about an hour. If you are going to the Diamond Head end of the beach it would take even longer. We happened upon a guy with a van who would come and pick us up and take us where we needed to go. Waikiki to the Airport was $5 per person. He told us about the attractions we passed by during the trips. I still have his card and plan to use him again when we go back in April. If you want his number let me know.

There are no express routes I believe provided by TheBus between HNL and Waikiki. Usually TheBus will take about an hour, but it all depends on traffic. Traffic can make that route 20 be a 2 hour ride... so you're looking at anywhere between a 1-2 hour commute depending on when you arrive. Also, factor in the frequency of the routes (which is actually pretty good -- less on weekends, more on weekdays -- although the airport-Waikiki routes have usually more buses on it) and you might have more time spent waiting/on a bus than you really want.

The thread posted by previous readers is an excellent one regarding alternative methods between HNL and the airport. Although I truly believe it's time for FlyerTalk members to offer exclusive service on this route (although don't look towards me to provide the service )

Aloha

I don't believe I have ever seen this posted.

You can contact STAR TAXI 2 to 3 days prior to arrival in HNL and they will pick you at the airport and take you to Waikiki for $15. The telephone number is 800 671 2999. Aloha.

See my Post above.
I just called STAR TAXI for a pick-up at HNL, INFLATION has reared its ugly head! The price is now $22 for up to 6. ALOHA
