After using a cab ($30 each way) and Roberts ($9) each way on our first and second visit to Waikiki, respectively, we decided to take the BUS ($2) for the trip to/from the airport this time. #19 was considerably less than an hour from Kuhio/Lewers intersection, and we noticed no significant difference in travel time to the other transportation options. The advantage of the bus is that this is a scheduled service and therefore the trip becomes somewhat predictable. However, there may be luggage size limitations. Bus schedules and luggage limits are posted on the bus website:

I, too, have tried The Bus. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. A little different way to see the territory on the way, too.

One thing to be aware of, if you're doing a round trip, tho, is that you'll likely pick up the return bus/route from a -different- bus stop than where you were let off. For example, I did a roundtrip to/from ala moana shopping center. The drop off point is on the north side of the complex, while the airport return buses depart from the south side, kind of across the street from ala moana park.

As mentioned above, timing can be good, if you manage to not have to wait too long at either bus stop to be picked up.

A Roberts tip...

Sometimes I wind up with a 1-night layover in Honolulu on pretty short notice. Roberts won't sell me a round-trip from the airport because I don't have a reservation for the return in the morning, but I call dispatch (954-8652) at 7am sharp, tell them which hotel I'm at, and ask if they've got any seats open, and usually they've got something that'll get me to the airport with plenty of time. Last time I even got there early enough to switch to an earlier flight out.

Transportation service in Honolulu

My family are going to Hawaii in October ( 6 in the family 2 adults and 4 children). 3 days in Maui and 4 days in Honolulu.

For Maui we decide to rent a car , but in Honolulu we wanted to just find a shuttle service to the hotel and back to the airport. I have found a lot of transportation services , and I find this LTLIMO HAWAII #808-389-9617 which has quite a deal. For the 6 of us on a limo , airport to Waikiki $45.00 and Waikiki to airport is $35.00. They also offer a 7 hours private Hawaii tour , that covers all the places to go in Honolulu for $250.00 for 6 people. I find it cheaper because if you get the Grand Circle Island tour it cost more than that and you have to go with a lot of people.

Have someone heard about this company or have anyone ever tried them. I can't seem to find any reviews posted on them.

Thanks.

I have not had experience with LTL, but I have had experience with Royal Hawaiian Limo. They have been very reliable and reasonable, although maybe a bit more than LTL. If you are planning to stay in Waikiki, I would suggest renting a van and driving to the north shore on your own, rather than spending $250. Most hotels have rental car agents on site.

Question Transportation from HNL to Hotel -- What's the best way to go?

Sorry if this is in another thread, but I've been searching and so far to no avail...

Will be arriving in HNL this Saturday for one night (quick MR/mini-trip). I'm currently on a flight scheduled to arrive at 8pm. If I stay on this flight, I'll have to get to my Waikiki hotel pretty quickly. If I make it onto an earlier flight, I'd get in at 4pm and would have several hours before I needed to be somewhere.

The question is what is the best/cheapest way to do this? If I arrive late, I'm assuming a taxi is the best way to go. Would a shuttle service of some kind be cheaper but just as fast? If I'm on the earlier flight, I'll have time and would prefer a sub-$40 option. What service is best to use in this case?

(When I leave the next morning for a 7am flight, I assume I'll have to book some kind of service but was planning to do this at the hotel...unless prebooking a round trip is cheaper.)

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have... I'm kind of at a loss on this one.

(For those who are curious, because I'm flying in/out of JFK and will need taxis when leaving and arriving, I'm trying to keep the transportation costs as low as possible while in HNL.)

While you can do the Waikiki express for (I think) ~$20 or so round trip, it will likely not be fast.

A taxi will run you $35-45 each way (a little less if at the later hour)

I'd consider one of three things:

a) See what a rental car would cost; be sure to add in the cost of parking.

b) See what a one-way rental with Budget (if near the Hyatt) or Alamo/National (if near the Hilton Hawaiian Village or Doubletree) would be from the airport to the agency's Waikiki location. This trick has saved me a lot of money. I'd then get a cab back in the morning when you won't have the hassle of a rental car return.

c) Particularly if you're on the 8pm flight, just get a room at the Ohana Airport Hotel. It used to be a dump but it's all been very nicely remodeled. Walk a block to Ninja Sushi or the Pizza place in the same center for dinner. The hotel also has a shuttle -- which is very nice. The hotel is hardly a destination hotel, but for mileage run purposes it's just fine and avoids the transportation time/cost/hassle of getting into Waikiki -- and there are several decent choices for dinner within easy walking distance.

Smile how to get 5 PAX + bags HNL to Embassy Suites® – Waikiki Beach Walk™ Resort?

Aloha HHonors Cousins,

In December we're making our first trip to the Embassy Suites® – Waikiki Beach Walk™ Resort.

We have 3 adults, 2 kids, and who knows how many bags.

What's our best option?

I called the ES and they do not have their own shuttle service nor a baggage service at the HNL airport.

We could certainly use a taxi or limo service. Or rent a car. We do plan to rent a car eventually. But as my flight arrives at night, I've been trying to find a way that would get us to the Resort and get the kids in bed ASAP rather than go through the extra 20-30 minutes of picking up a rental car. Plus we'd save a night of valet parking at the Hotel so whatever our transport cost would be somewhat reduced considering that nightly $25 fee.

There's a good chance all our bags won't fit in a standard car or taxi, maybe not even a large Town Car. I suppose I could then send the family ahead with as many bags as will fit in a taxi, while I take the rest to the rental car. But I'd prefer to find a quick solution for all people + all bags. Can we book a shuttle van ahead of time to take us and not stop at other properties on the way?

Mahalo

Probably best to put this in the Hawaii forum, it will get much more local traffic there.

A couple taxis may be the easiest but you could also use a car service with a limo or SUV or whatever size you need for the trip to the hotel. Once you figure out how many bags and the rest, you can make some calls for rates, or call the hotel and see if they recommend anybody.

We did this with 2 adults, 4 kids and about 7 bags.

We rented a limo at the airport. I don't recall the exact cost but it was less than 2 taxis would have cost.

how about sending one adult and kids in a taxi straight away and the other goes w/ bags to the rental car?
