How has disaster in Japan affected crowds at Waikiki?

Did a search, didn't see anyone else post on this subject..

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-0...-on-quake.html

Has anyone visiting Waikiki observed lesser crowds due to Japanese tourist cancellations? Before the quake/tsunami I know occupancies were up.

Am hoping to see more incentives aimed at encouraging us mainlanders to visit.. and am always happy to do my part to boost the Hawaiian economy!

I had read shortly after the tsunami that it (the shortfall in expected visitors from Japan) was likely to happen.

Postponed booking my hotel in Maui, and then a week or so ago went on to Priceline and got a very nice hotel at a very good price. Did autoslash.com on the car rental and have saved some dollars on the initial rental car booking as well.

Looks like the predictions back in March are coming true.
