Extra comfort paying with credit card points?
Does anyone have any experience paying for extra comfort after booking using credit card points through the credit card's travel portal, such as Chase, amex or U.S. Bank?
I've got some tickets that would be a good use of flex perks, but would want to pay to get extra comfort. I know that EC is not available when using partner miles for the booking, but is there a problem purchasing through an OTA or through one of the credit card portals?

Extra Comfort is definitely available when using partner miles for the booking, I've done it several times. You just book into coach and then buy Extra Comfort after the ticket is issued. Credit card points should work the same way. The only caveat is that you can't pay for the Extra Comfort upgrade itself with miles/points.
With partner mile Extra Comfort upgrades, you need to call HA, and either have them do it, or ask for the PNR so you can do it yourself on HA's website. With a credit card you should just be able to go directly to HA's website and do it yourself since you'll already have the PNR.

Thanks very much. I was told no extra comfort on an AA award from LAX-HNL on HA metal back when you could use AA miles to book from the mainland. I tried to HUACA a few times and it was a no go. But it was a while ago and early days for extra comfort and so it's good to know it has changed.
