Overhead luggage bin on HA intra-island ATR turboprop

Aloha,

We are flying HNL-LNY-MKK-HNL on HA ATR 42/72. The agent on the phone said a typical roller bag will fit in the overhead bins but that's hard to believe...

- Will a smaller roller actually fit?
- If not we will be permitted to gate check for free?
- Is there a certain side of the plane we should sit for each leg?

Mahalo.

PS Very excited to visit Lanai and Molokai!

I'm almost certain roller bags won't fit. AFAIK they'll planeside "valet" check the bag, like on the mainland with RJs for free. I'd say out of HNL, sit on the left, then on the right when you return to HNL. Between LNY and MKK I think you'd be good on either side. Enjoy your trip!
