50k HA miles -- worth paying $120 ransom to restore expired miles?
My miles expired less than 24 hours ago (no notice whatsoever) and HA is holding them ransom for $120. Should I pay up or let them go?
It's 50,000 of them. I'm in SEA

I just can't find any award availability. Granted, I moved in the last month so I might have more luck out of SEA but previously I was partner based and every time I tried to call in -- even when the partners had availability in their own currency, HA did not.
If there's a way to get them back for less of a ransom, it would be better.
However I figured with enough effort and patience, I can probably get to Maui (worth $400 or so).

Round trip awards from New York to Honolulu can be had for less than 50K miles, so yes they would be worth restoring. The best use of those miles is on Hawaiian Airlines flights, not partner airlines. Just be prepared to book in advance and travel at a non-peak time.

My spouse just picked up this card 2 months ago and hit the $1K spend and received the 35K miles 4 days ago. We called Barclay and were told "too bad" and "no one ever calls us when the number of miles offered goes down." Pretty disappointed with Barclay on this one.
