08/20/2014 HA156 Overflies Runway 2, Lands on OGG Runway 5

On this flight this morning. Probably flew this route 50x in the last year. Not your typical missed approach situation. Didn't see the big Xs on Runway 2 until after we landed on Runway 5. Came in for regular approach, flaps extended, but no landing gear and not descending as we get closer to the airport. Flew over Runway 5, still a few thousand feet in the air. Head out toward the Bay then circled back toward Kahului and flew straight over Kahului and landed with a hard thud on Runway 5. Will need to listen to the ATC recording on this one if I can find it to see what was happening.
I was not the only one panicking on approach. I wish the pilots had made some announcement that the approach would not be the usual one.
EDIT: Someone else advised that the earlier flights did this too. So maybe runway maintenance work. Wonder how the flights took off during this time?

Thanks. Appears the runway work on 2 at OGG has been going on for months now in the morning hours concluding about 8 a.m. Generally take the 7:37ish flight so usually arrive after 8. Wonder if HA has to bump pax off flights to take off on Runway 5? Full throttle while brakes applied then gun it?

RWY05 has no instrument approaches and 02 is closed, so they are flying the ILS02 circle to 05.
