Island Air to Purchase Q400's
It was announced today that Island Air has placed an order for 2 Q400 NextGen turboprop airliners and has also taken options for four additional Q400 NextGen aircraft. The aircraft will be delivered with a dual-class, 71-seat configuration.
Based on the list price, the firm order is valued at approximately $60.9 million US. The value could increase to $188 million US should Island Air exercise all its options.
No delivery date has been announced.

The interesting statement in the press release is this:
"The Q400s will be configured with 71 seats in two classes."
It will be interesting to see if Island Air can get its act together and be a formidable competitor to HA.

Agreed, seems to still be a vacuum in the thinner routes that's not filled by Empire's (Ohana) three ATR's.
Hopefully biz goes well for them and the options will be taken up.
Who knows, the five ATR's could end up wearing Ohana colors if/when the add'l 400's come in...
