Can I Do This Connection at HNL?

I am flying HA 482 PPT-HNL, which arrives in HNL at 6:20 a.m.

I will have only one small carry on bag, no checked bags.

I would like to book an 8 a.m. flight HNL to LAX, flight HA 10.

Is it possible to clear customs and make this connection?

Cutting it close, but if on the same PNR you should be protected on he next flight.

Thank you for the reply.

It wouldn't be on the same PNR, as I already booked the PPT-HNL segment.

I noted that HA won't let me book PPT-HNL-LAX as a legal connection using those flights, it puts me on the 1 p.m. flight to LAX.

How long might it take to clear customs (on a Sunday) at 6:20 a.m. in HNL?

It's not so much clearing customs, it's a question of whether PPT-HNL arrives on time. Late at all, and you are screwed. Maybe HA helps you out, maybe not.

Maybe just spend a day in HNL? Hop the bus to Waikiki, get a hotel room, and enjoy the beach/nightlife. Otherwise, I'd book the later flight.

You just pretty much answered your own question. If HA won't let you book it as a valid connection, then it is too short for a valid connection. I would book the 1pm flight to LAX, hop a bus to Waikiki for a beachfront breakfast at the Halekulani. But, then again, that's just me...

The Minimum Connecting Time in HNL for International > Domestic on HA is 120 Minutes.

That said - I would take the risk.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Alas, I can't find a way to get from LAX to SPI by the end of the same day anyway, so unless there is some routing I've missed, it looks like I may as well take a later flight from HNL.

Did you try connecting via the Bay Area vs. LAX?

Hawaiian won't book that connection on the same PNR, and they won't let you switch to an earlier flight either. They force a really long MCT and are inflexible about it. (but the other side of the argument is that they can't know how quickly you can make it through.)

Do you have no bags and global entry? Very very quickly. You'll spend more time getting to immigration than you will spend in immigration and customs.

Well, just an update, thanks all for the suggestions.

Finally booked the last leg of my trip, using some leftover AA points: 37500 points in business class HNL to SPI.

So, now I arrive on HA at 6:30 am on Sunday from PPT, and have the day in HNL, then departing Sun evening on HA 8, to LAS, changing to AA to DFW, then another flight to SPI.

Question: I have not flown HA in business, will a 6 hour "nap" be possible? Don't really care for in flight meals, drinks, but will really need the rest.
