Hawaiian Airlines Announces Non-Stop Service To Taipei, Taiwan

Today Hawaiian Airlines has once again announced another surprising new route to their recent route announcements. Beginning July, 2013 they will offer non-stop flights between Honolulu and Taipei, Taiwan three times a week utilizing their 294 seat Airbus A330-200. This flight is in response to the recent announcement that the U.S. said that it would include Taiwan into the Visa waiver program, that permits visa free travel to the U.S. They have yet to announce any information about fares.Taiwan will mark Hawaiian's 7th Asian destination and their 11th international destination.

Hawaiian announced today dates, times and fares for the new TPE service. Not to fond of the departure at 1:55 am!

Beginning July 9, subject to government approval, flight HA 807 to Taipei will depart Honolulu International Airport at 1:55 a.m. every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Beginning July 10, flight HA 808 to Honolulu will depart Taipei International Airport at 8:55 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Edit: Looks like hnl808 beat me to the punch on flight times.

Needless to say the westbound flight times are bordering on awful. But I do wonder if the 14-hour aircraft ground time in TPE is buffer to give HA the flexibility to open up a tag-on city in the future.

It also looks like China Airlines will be bringing back their TPE service starting 6/2/13. Very similar departure times out of HNL to HA. They will also be using the A330-300 aircraft on this route.

CI002 Departs TPE @ 2355 – 1540 Arrives in HNL
CI001 Departs HNL @ 0120 – 0600+1 Arrives in TPE

What are your opinion on this move by HA? is this going to be a profitable route?

Profitable? Probably. The Visa waiver program will drive a lot of demand and HA's product and fare structure is pretty well matched with Taiwan market (i.e. not ultra premium J, lots of Y seats). CI will probably corner all the low cost packaged tour market for TPE-HNL so HA should probably target the individual travelers that tend to pay higher fares.

The interesting thing here is the schedule. Looks like the plane will be on the ground for 14 hours at TPE. More than enough to do a tag-on flight to HKG or SIN... :)

this is impressive. HA has grown exponentially internationally in the last two years. where are they getting the capital to fund such an expansion? i wish them well, but is the expansion happening too too fast? forgive me if my Q's have been asked.

They seems to spending a lot on ads in Taiwan to promote this new service, so hope it does well. Fare are high, so if they can fill the planes should make a profit.

I just checked HNL-TPE in December-January...right now they're $375 each way ($750 round-trip) + 68.80 in taxes = Total All In is $818.80.

HA hasn't updated the amount of mileage earned to Taipei just yet, so CPM might be a bit difficult to calculate, unless someone knows it offhand.

As far as the westbound flight times, 2 a.m. is great and will allow you to sleep all the way to Taipei (you land right around 6-6:15 a.m. the next morning!)

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 6:43 am.
