Platinum 2011 F Upgrade Certs Work

Subscribe
Got my 2 Platinum Upgrade Certs this week.

Figured no reason to wait until everyone was using them, so just called the Call Center to try and use the first one for Sunday's flight.

After being on hold for 30 minutes while they figured out how to make them work, they actually upgraded both ends of my flight (inbound to HNL Sun and outbound next week) to First. Seats confirmed.

My read of the rules was that you had to ask within 2 days of each leg so my return wouldn't yet have qualified but at least in this early instance they took both my certs and upgraded both ends of the trip from a time within 2 days of the originating Transpac leg.

Based on the Platinum upgrade cost of $225/leg Y to F, this is a $450 better deal than we got last year.

Now if they would just give us a Chairman's level at 70-75,000 miles with some real perks, I would be a happy camper.

Fine print of platinum upgrade certificates
Trying to decide if it is worth flying a few more segments to reach platinum status. Aside from being able to upgrade only two days prior to travel, what are the other terms/fine print on the upgrade certificates? Booked the HNL-NYC special and would love to fly in F on the way home.

Well, a hint as to how well I value Platinum on HAL is that I see no reason to go Plat when all you get is 2 1st upgrades.

I fly to/from Hawaii from the mainland 12 times a year and have started changing planes in LAX and flying another carrier.

(Still got 34,000 HAL miles this year, but no more).

I did do a HNL-OGG-HNL run last Thursday and again when they call for status preboard half the plane gets on.

Status with HAL means less than on any other airline flying.

HAL is ultimately a tourists airline and run as such.

is that 12 round trips or 12 one-way trips to/from the mainland?

Anyone get any upgrade certs for 2012? Got my letter in the mail, no certs, only luggage tags and a card.

No certs for me either, though I never got a chance to use my ones from last year anyway, all my flights were fully booked in first.
