I guess we can only hope for another INTU or similar 50K promotion while we are touring and retain separate HH acounts! </font>
That is why, IMO, your wife and you should retain separate accounts. I usually achieved Diamond and my wife Gold, have always been treated well when travelling outside USA.

Yes, but individually we won't make diamond again, maybe I might make gold. But together we would certainly make gold and maybe diamond. I am still enjoying the benefits of diamond (until 4/03) due to a heap of overseas travel last year, but won't even get close to Gold this year (have 7 stays, 19 nights and unlikely to get more than another 1 or 2 stays and nights this year).
I'll give HH a call and see what deal they are offering for signing my wife up. Then we can decide later if we merge to retain them independently. After this trip any future 50K promos won't be any use for my wife anyway, so there probably won't be any real benefit in retaining two memberships. I assume that if we merge them, she can join again at a later stage if we are in a situation to take advantage of such a promo.

Any idea what I get signing her up? Do I sign her up first and then call HH or do I have to nominate my account when her's is created?

It's called Member get a Member. So, you are referring your wife and every hotel stay, YOU get 1000 points up to 5000 per year. You can have 5 member get a member people on your list. I signed up my husband, and we are both signed up for INTU, and have 3 stays so far. On our two night Albuquerque stay, I reserved the first night, my spouse stayed free with me, and my husband stayed the second night and his spouse (me) stayed free. They let us keep the same room. So I got 1000 points for HIS stay, he got 500 double dip AA miles, 500 booking bonus, 25% extra for being gold (comes with the INTU promotion, and it counts as a stay). I am doing the same for our visit to Toronto which will then be our 4th stay each. I think you are better off keeping your accounts separate as you can update each profile each quarter for an extra 2000 (X4) points. If you have 1 room, 2 consequetive stays you can switch as I did. I don't think booking two rooms for the same night counts as two stays, so I don't think it brings you closer to Diamond - but call, and let us know if I'm wrong about that.

Thanks, sounds like good advice.

OK. She is now signed up and has 2000 points in her account (1000 for signing up on-line and 1000 for profile update this quarter).
Now just have to wait until business hours to have the Member get a Member thingy setup. Although she won't use the account until middle of next year, she can collect another 3 x 1000 point bonuses for profile updates in that time and have 5000 points before her first stay!
Thanks for the advice.

Make sure you update her one more time before the end of Sept. I read elsewhere that they are reducing to 500 the points we get for changing profile - but still twice a quarter.

Only got 1000 points for the first change. Nothing for second or subsequent changes. Is she not doing something right? Do the changes need to be some number of days apart?

You can collect points for up to two rooms for each stay. On the third, I'm afraid, you're probably out of luck. But be sure to get the points for both rooms. A few months back, I had a stay at a DT, and I ended up having to fax a copy of my folios to get credit for both rooms -- they hadn't done it automatically.
