Gay Beach in Tampa

Gay Beach in Tampa
I will be spending a Sunday next month in Tampa. In the past when I have been on the left coast, I have taken a day at Fort Desoto State Park which I must say has an amazing beautiful beach.
But it is my understanding that Bedrock or Sunset Beach on Treasurer Island is gay on Sundays? Any experience on the quality of the beach and the occupants (I can also be very happy on a lonely stretch of beautiful beach with a good book and my Ipod).
Also, directions to the beach from TPA for a grid only mentality New Yorker like me would be greatly appreciated.
