Could not resist buying a very cheap fare from KIX to FRA via BKK with a possibility to stay in BKK for a few days. Could someone please recommend any decently priced hotel located in Silom Road? I used to stay in Ramada D'MA when I was able to find the price of 25 euro/night, but it appears that for August (5-7th) the prices are well beyond my (financially recessed) student budget.
Thank you very much!

I have previously stayed at the Narai on Silom, which was relatively inexpensive ($40-60). However, I did have roaches in the room last time I was there.
The beauty of Bangkok is being able to stay at the Peninsula for less than $200. Splurge and enjoy.
I've stayed there many times since they opened a few years ago. It's gay owned - and mostly operated. They're running a special right now. They actually eMailed ME to lower my rate for Sept/Oct!! WOW! A hot cooked to order breakfast is included. It's located just steps from Silom Rd (about 1/2 a block) and even less steps from the foot of the entry to the SkyTrain Chong Nonsi station - which is one staion down Silom Rd toward the river from Sala Daeng / Patpong. Small. VERY clean! Nice!! I take the room without a window and save a few baht for some extra shopping!!
Room with window - (view of SkyTrain tracks) 926 Baht ($27)
Room without window 765 baht ($22)
It's a pretty good walk to the Soi 2 or Soi 4 venues (DJ Station & Telephone bar, etc), but I do it all the time. You can also hop on a bus for about 7 baht or take a taxi for the 3 minute ride for less than 40 baht. Any questions, please feel free to PM me.

I very recently stayed at lub-d-bangkok, and it was without a doubt the best budget hotel I have ever stayed at. It caters to backpackers but dont let that put you off, the place is extremely stylish (its a bit of an experiment in interior design). It's less than 10 mins from the skytrain station in the heart of Silom, so you are just on the edge of the craziness rather than in the thick of it. Highly recommended!
Stayed twice in Salil Hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 8, which is right at Nana Skytrain. Advantages: more luxurious than its price suggests, because no elevator. Top-floor rooms are nicest, 5 flights.
Loved the hotel and especially the breakfast. When we checked out for 2 weeks of travel, then returned, they were effusive in their welcome. Quiet street, golf-cart service to/from Skytrain.
Obviously Gay-friendly, like the whole wonderful Kingdom of Thailand.
I go to BKK every six to eight weeks. When I want a budget stay in Silom, I always stay at swisslodge.com. Last I looked, they were running some good specials. Decent hotel, great staff, and the PERFECT location. Five minute to Silom road and Skytrain, 10 min walk to Boyztown, and next to some great Thai/Western restaurants...

On my way back now from Songkran in BKK. Just stayed at the Bally's Silom. Very nice room and hotel, but adjacent to DJ Station and the noise at night until 4 am or so required ear plugs for me to sleep.
I did note that on Suriwong Rd, the newly opened De Arni had a grand opening rate posted outside for 1290THB per night. It is right next to the new Le Meridien.
Excellent deals available for the Conrad in BKK.
Reviews on Trip Advisor are reaaly good.
Has anyone on this board stayed there and how close is it to the "Gay" scene (ie. Telephone/Balcony etc.)?
Thanks in advance!
I have stayed there a couple of times, nice property. However, it would be quite a hike to the "gay scene", probably a 20 minute walk. You could take Skytrain, might be a little faster than walking. Taxi's cheap and could be fast depending on traffic. If you want to stay close to the scene, I probably wouldn't pick this hotel. The Pan Pacific, Dusit Thani, and the new Meridian would be much closer.

I always stay at the Ibis Sathorn. The taxis can always find it, walking distance to babylon, and about 5 min taxi (45 bhat) to Silom. Rooms are modern and always clean, typical Ibis. Price is $50USD roughly.
