I have often wondered about DXB. The U.A.E. seems to be one of the most liberal places in the Middle East. As of late, I noticed a lot of marketing efforts to promote Dubai as a tourist destination. It's interesting to see that most carriers from this region are making major investments in order to position themselves as top world carriers. For example, look at Emirate's purchase of the new A380's and expansion to NY. Qatar's new service to Osaka with further addition of Japanese crew and Gulf Air's revamped F/J cabins.

Maybe off topic, but surely a great (and true) story.
Living in San Francisco, little raises these eyebrows anymore, but my friends' experience last month.
Gobs of boys returning from Whistler Gay Ski Week on my UA YVR-SFO but I missed all the action on the AS YVR-LAX flight of my friends.
Turns out one friend (window) was seated next a middle seat who had his laptop out, and decided to show some (ahem) pictures of himself to Mr. Aisle seat. Before you know it, they were playing with the old twigs and berries under a blanket.
Turns out other friends of one of them were in the row behind, so any between-the-seat rear-view of the laptop was a non-issue.

While I'm on the runway.... I mean aisle I let the pax make all the 1st moves. Now what happens on the layover..... stays on the layover. Or at least until the next PSP get together. (Hot Tubs & Teachers)
I will say that the all nighter flts are the best.

Dubai is quickly running out of oil so they're investing in tourism now so that when the oil dries up the country has something to sell. Liberalizing is probably a good idea if you want tourists to come visit.
While on a CO flight (ewr-nrt) I was given the heavy cruise from one FA. He offered extra everything at each service segment and even made some body contact. Later we chatted near the rear bulkhead........... he was super horny and was ready to explode.
We didn't make it on that flight but did back in NJ a few weeks later........ where he did explode.

I'm not sure Dubai ever had that much oil ; its wealth has traditionally come from banking and trading. You're right in noting the emphasis on tourism, though the government remains authoritarian in many aspects (denying a visa to my colleague due to her status as an unmarried woman under 30, for example) and liberal in others (turning a blind eye to very visible prostitution, especially in Bur Dubai neighborhood). Alcohol is readily available in Dubai, but not in Sharjah, the next Emirate over, where much stricter laws are in place. I found Dubai to be fascinating and bizarre in all of its artificiality (similar to Las Vegas) but worth seeing, especially as a stopover (in my case, on the way to Kabul).
I was about to say, he's had some experience of the in-flight services offered by a leading german airline...
Alas he and I were downing a few drinks in a dive karaoke bar in kowloon last night. Yes he does have some stories for this thread, but will he post them...

The bars did seem to get progressively nastier (and not in a good way! ). But hey atleast one of us learnt to 'appreciate' who Ronan Keating was. By the end of the evening I think we needed some beefy firemen to rescue us.

No he won't.
But don't sell yourself short my dear. You can match each and every story of mine with something bigger/better/trashier.
Tell you what, I'll match each posted story of yours with one of mine! Now that should make some quality FTers quake in their lederhosen.
I couple of months back I had a FA in F who was very flirty. Everytime he would bring me a drink, he would bush up my arm amd make sure I felt "him". Needless to say, I didnt move my arm and I kept ordering drinks.
