More from the Big Easy

So La fittes is good, but given NOLA's reputation, you can find not-great-publicity actions going on in any of the bars or in the streets....visitors get very uninhibited while breathing the hurricane/daiquiri scented New Orleans evening air.....

I am biased towards the Pub as that's were I met my bf of the last 2+ years....during the foam party no less....very scandellous for me....

Is that what that pungent scent is?

alibi? that's a weird area with nightclubs, slaughterhouses, and auto body shops!

Oddfellows in Minneapolis is great for a video bar and their restaurant is awesome, 4 stars I'd say
Correction: Oddfellows is only the name of the restaurant. The bar is call BOOM! It's a very nice bar if you like videos and historical buildings. The crowd isn't that great. Try the Saloon next time.

I am with you on the c-ring in Amsterdam. I enjoy this place but those back stairs are a horror. But this is how stairs are in Amsterdam.

Anyboidy remember the Gigolo in Lodon?

My first trip to Londres I was working with the Royal Festival Ballet, and eventually was deposited at the "Jig" by one of the dancers.
Cornered for an eternity by someone I was *certain* was speaking English, though the accent was SO thick I couldn't really understand ONE WORD of what he was rabbiting on about, all I could do, attempting to be a Good Yank and wishing to make a good impression, was produce the occasional, non-commital "Oh," and "um-hmm."
But the place was lively otherwise, if also a grade A fire-trap.
Well, it's long gone as far as I can tell, but there's no dearth of friendly watering-holes in The Big Limes, though our Friends Across The Pond don't seem to have gotten the word about NOT smoking...

I have absolutely nothing to contribute to this thread, except to nominate it as a sticky. It may be nice for folks to browse through for the favorite bars of FTers...

Ah Big Chicks......what a great ex-dyke bar.....us boyz took over.....and is the Closet still around....great for afterhours drinks.....

The Closet is still around but they unceremoniously dumped their two best bartenders (Lee and Lana). As the place was my regular hang and the bartenders were two good friends of mine there was a lot of "drama". Our crowd abandoned the Closet and we moved up the block (NW corner of Broadway and Roscoe) to Jacqueline's, which is ostensibly straight but is mighty gay - friendly. Oh, and our fave Closet bartender who got canned was hired on at Jacqueline's :-) Business is booming for Jacqueline's, and the Closet is fairly dead...the Closet's owners still think that they can get away with rude service and over - priced drinks I guess...in any case I enjoy walking by the empty Closet on my way to busy Jacqueline's ;-)

Go to www.metromix.com and www.centerstage.net to read reviews of both Jacqueline's and the Closet....

Let's not forget:

Sky, Stock and Campus in Montreal
Backstreet and The Armory in Atlanta
Badlands in San Francisco
Little Jim's in Chicago
The Cock in New York, since La Bamba's Olympia Lounge and Stella's are both closed now. Where Stella's was is now some place called Otis? There's also a nice little bistro/bar on 10th Avenue named, appropriately, Xth, IIRC. And the old standbys, The Hangar and Stonewall.
Did I mention Rupert's in London?
The Berlin Connection and Anderes Ufer?
The Hotline Club in Milan
The Barn in Toronto
Tasca Don Sol in Caracas

and that's just the PG-rated list...

The Campus is PG? What happened? My last experience there was more on the other side of R!

Little Jim's? I think we can forget that! (And it didn't used to be PG back in that corner at 3:00 a.m., either!

My Gosh! You really DO get around, ILUVPARIS!!!

Well, technically, Campus is PG. Anything outside dancers who dance fully in the nude for you is verboten - err, c'est interdit. Technically, that is...

Depending on the bartender working it at the time. I could tell you a story about LJ's and bartenders who are overzealous about rules and regulations (and he actually later got fired for his overzealousness), but it's not PG, so we'd have to take it to PM...

Oh, I get it, you're just being "circumspect!" Bring it on (PM, of course)!

Hmm, I think that maybe you are thinking of the Testaccio area across the Tiber from Trastevere, where there is a whole complex of nightclubs together...the place I am thinking of is in alley off of another small street in the maze that is Trastevere not far from the Santa Maria in Trastevere and the fabulous Hotel Cisterna...I will have to do some more research! Crazy place...but while we're on the subject, if someone is ever in that area, they should definitely check out the straight bar TRANSYLVANIA, which is built underground and decorated exactly like the catacombs! Gross and wonderful...
