The Lure was great. The old Hula's was great. 69 in Tokyo was great. Copacabana in Manila was great. Anyone see a pattern? Bars ain't where it's at anymore, boys. There's the internet and no one drinks.

I miss Hula's - all very true. The only thing that is still the same is that I still can't get a date to save my life. The upside is I'm not bitter. So things balance out.

Join the club, mister. These days, if I can get a date just to pick up the tab, I'm happy.

Well, that certainly isn't true in Washington, DC. JR's on 17th Street is packed to the rafters 7 nights a week. Vodka highballs are still $2 each on Sundays and they are very popular with nearly everyone there.

Amsterdam - the Web
Berlin - Muntschman's
SF - The Edge (Happy Hour only)
Palm Springs - The Barracks ( Sunday Afternoon)
Paris - Bear Bar (happy Hour) Le Keller (After 11pm)
Antwerp - The Boots
Ft. Lauderdale - Bill's Filling Station or the Alibi

Sadly there are very few good ones left in the US.

Status report on the Buenos Aires Club scene. Just got back.

Palacio, Amerika, and Titanic are all still "rockin" and I have to say Amerika is amazing!!! I have not had as much fun at a club since Angels of Xenon in Madrid. ( is that club still around? ) I have had A LOT of fun at A LOT of clubs in many world capitals. I have a new "Top 5" lister. Amerika in Buenos Aires. WOW!!!

I know the internet has affected the bar scene, but drinking?? I don't see any reduction there...

I doubt bars are ever going to die, but the Orlando Sentinel apparently predicts that they will within the next ten years:

Gay bars
As The Orlando Sentinel noted in a recent article, around the country gay bars have been going out of business as gay men and women have been gaining greater acceptance in society. What used to be a hangout for people who felt unwelcome elsewhere is becoming less necessary.

Odds of survival in 10 years: As with many industries, the very best of them will endure; the rest won't.

What I want to know is, who care if it's "necessary" or not - you won't ever find me in some breeder place if I'm just out to have some fun, please. I mean, do you guys know what they do in bed??? Shees.

my current favorites:

London - Friendly Society & Trash Palace
Just got back from Rio and had a good time at Le Boy

anyone know where the hell one goes on Monday nights in Buenos Aires or Sao Paulo - coming from London I thought somewhere would be open but despite some extensive searching I couldn't find any open bars.

Not much going on in Buenos Aires or Sao Paulo on Monday nights. Some cruising at Alto Palermo in BA but that is about it. Hey we have to sleep sometime

an anecdote

A couple of years ago I was in Vienna, at the Eagle (I think its a law that all big cities have an Eagle. Some are nice, others are latrine holes (I'm thinking of here)).

While I won't say it was my favorite, the guys were pleasant, and the atmosphere friendly. However, I couldn't help but notice the two different videos playing. On one screen (nearest that dark area) was a leather video that slipped into some bondage, then to S&M involving whips and catheters (ouch). When I couldn't bear that any more, I went to the other video thinking it would be a bit tamer. It was a LOT tamer. They were showing The Princess Diaries with Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.

But I suppose catheter S&M porn and The Princess Diaries does average out to an R rating.
