Any FTers in town that week>
Any native Berliners or others have favorite places to meet fellow 'travellers'

P.S. When John F Kennedy went to Berlin and said, 'Ich bin ein Berlner!' did he really say he was a berlin danish pastry>>???

Indeed. The correct statement is 'Ich bin Berliner!'
DaDOK, be careful with the Berliner Jungen. At first it is just innocent romance, going out to clubs and restaurants... and then you suddenly find yourself mailing jeans (still pretty expensive in BRD) and CK underwear to BER on a weekly basis! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif
BER- Berlin All Airports
TXL- Flughafen Tegel (LH uses that one)
SXF- Flughafen Schoenefeld (ex-DDR and Interflug hub, used by Air Berlin)
THF- Flughafen Tempelhof, used by small/commuter planes

Well, I'll be in Berlin with a friend Nov. 6 - 10, so if you have any free time before that, let me know.
Well -- it is more complicated. In Berlin, what other parts of Germany call "ein Berliner" is called a "Pfannkuchen", which is something quite different in the Rhineland (a pancake, namely). So in Berlin, his statement was unambiguous. Also, leaving out the determiner "ein" would weaken the rhetorical impact of the statement -- you lose the "I am one of you" aspect. So he got it right, I think.
Btw, Berliner are delicious!

I always thought it was Ronald Reagan attempting to quote JFK who said he was a jellydonut.
I was in Berlin last year, and I found the cafe Schall und Rauch to be quite chummy (not bad food either). It was there that the cute bartender told me, "Dat's a beeeer, not a Fahn-tah, slow down.." *Swoon* hehe
None of the other bars/discos seemed to distinguish themselves.

Thanks for the offer, ILP -- but I will not get in until Nov 13 and will be busy with work until Saturday evening, Nov 15.
