Sounds like an easy thing to do, right? Two people coming in on different airlines (AirBerlin and BA) about 30 minutes apart need to meet somewhere in the airport before hopping on a train to Munich.
Problem: No cellphones, and we both have never been to MUC before. Where would be a logical place to meet?
It seems like they have some sort of giant mall and attached hotel (Sheraton) at the airport, but I'm not sure how convenient either would be from the arrival terminal.
Advice from frequent MUC visitors would be appreciated. Thanks.

best thing to meet would be the Airbräu. (bavarian biergarten and restaurant) which is located on the square between terminal 1 and 2. I often met FTer there.

You are both getting in at Terminal 1 in MUC. Unfortunately I haven't been there for a long time but ways are very short at T1, so it should not be that hard to meet somewhere.
As suggest, why don't you walk over to the central area where the trains leave anyway? There are plenty of places to meet. Decide for a certain restaurant, shop, bank, etc.
Go to the central area (Z): there is a huge display of flights leaving/arriving right above the central information counter in a hall just above the S-Bahn station. lots of space in front and perfect place to meet.
The attached hotel is the Kempinski, but I wouldn't meet there. My suggestion would be to meet by one of the car rental counters (Hertz, Avis, Sixt, etc.). They are all in one location and there shouldn't be any confusion about where to meet.

30 minutes apart is nothing in travel terms. The good news is that Munich does not force you into customs as you deplane, so, as long as you are coming into the same terminal, meet him at his gate.
There is a Burger King and a Beer Garden on the way to the trains.....
The German airports I've seen all have designated meeting points which are clearly signed. I'd suggest checking each other's gates and using the meeting point as a backup.

Bumping this thread for a suggested meeting place. I will be arriving on United; other FTer on Delta, about 30 minutes apart on a weekday morning.
I believe I read that when deplaning, one is now forced to remain in the sterile area and must go into Customs and Immigration, so walking over to the DL Gate is not an option, is it?
I suspect we'll be taking the S-Bahn into the city, so the large train in the central waiting area sounds like a good idea.

That's correct. You'll have to clear customs immediately and cannot go to other gates. The central area is outside (unless I'm thinking of something else) and you'll freeze your keesters off waiting. Go into Airbrau, have coffee or beer.

The large train is not there any more (used to be a model of the Transrapid) Anyway, I hope you waited in the Z(entralbereich) area and not in between there and Terminal 2. It's always freezing there!
