I am traveling with my kids and father and we will have a 12 hour layover in Frankfurt (Lufthansa). I usually travel with just carry-on. Is there a place to store this before security if we would like to take the train to the city? Also is there a lounge you can pay to access or showers available in the airport (we will have been traveling from the United States). Thank you for any updated information you can give me on these questions.
With 12 hours at FRA you should have enough time to look for showers as suggested, store your bags and enjoy the city! No need to pay for expensive lounge access even if you can find any (which I doubt).
I have a 7hr layover in FRA (coming in from the US @1000 and heading to PEK on LH @1715), and had similar questions. I am a 1P/*G so in theory could use the showers in the LH lounges, but heard that there are normally long lines and I arrive at 10am. And since I would be in transit, I assume the showers are in the lounges past security (and my bags would be checked in or I would have to fetch them post-security)
7 hours isn't really long enough to go into town, etc, so I suspect I would have to spend it in the airport area, and usually staying in a lounge would likely make me stir crazy after three hours. Any ideas? (Frankly it would be cool if there were hotels you could get by the hour - like for 4 hours- that one could shower and catch some shuteye in some privacy)

Hello Tardis42,
The lines for showers in the LH lounges are often long, but not *that* long. I have never waited more then 80 minutes, and I have often waited only 30 or 40 minutes. Why don't you go to the lounge first, then take a shower and see show late it is when you finish? If you get out quickly, you actually do have time to go into Frankfurt (15 minutes) or Mainz (30 minutes). If you have a 7-hour layover, spend 1 hour getting the shower, and plan to be back 60-70 minutes before your onward flight (assuming you checked you baggage through and don't have to pick it up in FRA) -- that leaves you a fair amount of time!
I've gone into *London* from LHR on a 7-hour layover, and that's a lot further!
I will be doing 4 hour transits at FRA on a Sunday morning and a Wednesday morning this month. When doing similar layovers at ORD I go over to the Hilton and use the health club. Are there workout facilitities at FRA?

I assume rail to Mainz, as others have recommended, is the best way to go ... although I've found Deutsche Bahn's website to be less than optimal as far as clarity ... I'm guessing from what I've found that there is a station at FRA, without having to make way to the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof?
They have a pretty cool feature where you put in your flight info and it'll tell you when you should arrive by and what trains will help you. I did say it's the S8 (s-bahn) but you can also get some RB trains with different numbers.
Im traveling w/my parents (in their 70s) this week. We transfer at FRA; arriving on an AA flight, from what I can tell - at Terminal 1, C8.
We then change to a Lufthansa flight to Italy. Any advice re: the fastest/easiest way to get from the AA to LH.
Arrival gates at FRA can change from day to day but assuming it's a C gate in Terminal 1 you can either walk through the terminal or take the Skyline train if your departure gate is in A.
You may want to check this thread in the M&M forum but the best (and the only) advice I can give is to "follow the signs". You will have to go through passport control at some point but if you are following the signs to your departure gate you will be directed to go through passport control anyway.
This assumes you can check your baggage through to your final destination in Italy. If not, you will have to follow the baggage claim sign first which will take you through passport control and re-check your baggage.

Not only is there a train station at FRA, but there are two.
The newer Fernbahnhof handles long distance trains, while the older station handles S-Bahn commuter runs into downtown Frankfurt (12 minutes!) or even to Mainz.
