Question Extra mileage with Classic/Classic+ fares

I just realized I am not getting the extra miles for buying Classic or Classic Plus fares. Most recently, I bought a Classic ticket, but the credit I was given only reflects 100% of the mileage, not the 125% perk from buying this fare type. Now I wonder how many times this has happened since AirFairs began.
Is this happening to others?

I just checked my last flight in June where I was on a Classic Plus and all my miles were there. They post directly into "Miles" column combined with the actual flight miles of the flight, not the "Bonus Miles" column.

I'm curious, I've tried reading around but do the 125%/150% mileage bonuses for fares qualify for Summit/Ascent status?

Typically not for airlines, and that included Midwest, although I'm not 100% sure about Frontier.

It's one of the things I like about Priority Club (Holiday Inn/Intercontinental family of hotels) where all types of points earned count toward elite status including credit card, points dot com transfers, points from bonus offers, points from elite status, etc.

Doing this gets people more invested more deeply in your affinity program, ultimately giving them more reason to choose you even when the fare is not as low or when the schedule is not as convenient.

Yep, which is why I'm asking if anyone knows for sure - can't find any fine print that says one way or another.

Yeah, I'm hoping someone with EarlyReturns experience will know for sure. I'll be able to tell you in a few months!

Yes, the Classic and Classic Plus bonus mileage credit applies for Ascent/Summit status. According to the web-site, it says the bonus percentage is applied to actual flight mileage and counts toward elite qualification.

As an example of how this works for a Summit member who receives 50% bonus miles on all fare types, consider the route DEN-MDW.
  • If you purchase an Economy ticket, your elite flight mileage would be 908 miles + 454 bonus miles.
  • If you purchase a Classic Plus ticket, your elite flight mileage would be 1,362 miles + 681 bonus miles.

Hope this helped.

Excellent! I virtually always get elite based on segments rather than miles, but with the bonus miles counting, perhaps miles will get me up there too if I have a year of more driving-clients and fewer flying-clients.

The below post is wrong. Please see followup post in reply 11.
I believe that your level is based both on miles and segments. If I find out differently, I'll let you know.

Because I found out differently.

Status is based on achieving a flight miles or segments threshold. Status is not dependent on both.

Example:
Summit Level is 25,000 flight miles or 30 segments in a calendar year.

You have 30,000 flight miles and 15 segments. You qualify for Summit, because you have the minimum 25,000 flight miles.

Hope this clarifies.

Once ticketed, upgrade to Classic or Classic Plus

If my company buys me a ticket in economy, can i pay the difference to 'upgrade' to classic or classic plus or does the ticket have to be cancelled and rebooked?

Unless someone knows different, I believe there's no way (currently) to upgrade from Economy to Classic or Classic Plus.

This is functionality I would very much like seeing added. Perhaps the lowest-fare people who buy Frontier because it was cheapest on Expedia might not be especially likely to seek out the Frontier website and plunk down another $25-100 or so to upgrade. But there are plenty of business travelers...I'm one of them...who are required to book travel through their company's travel service or travel contractor. There's no way for them to get the Classic or Classic Plus fare today.

I'm sure there are logistical issues to make this kind of ability a reality, but I hope it is coming down the road. If customers want to give you more money to get a better seat, more miles, free bags, etc, they should be allowed to, even if for whatever reason they did not book Classic or Classic Plus in the first place.

From what I've seen, it looks like Classic tends to be Economy + X, and Classic Plus is Economy + Y. And X and Y seem to be fairly consistant...for many segments I've seen X be $25, so if the Economy fare was $70, Classic was $95....if Economy was $150, Classic was $175....etc. That kind of pricing structure lends itself to being sold as an "upgrade" post-purchase. And I hope that's the direction they're going. Standardize the fare difference between the tiers (with stage length levels), and then make the post-purchase upgrade available for the same price difference.

Everything takes time, and there are bigger fish to fry at the moment with the integration. But I'd like this to be on their list for post-integration.

+1...also to upgrade award booking, which, as YX25 or Frontier equivalent, is considered F9 Economy.

Absolutely -- didn't even think of that.

Of course there are no bonus miles when you're earning zero miles in the first place (traveling on a free ticket). But free bags, free drink, stretch seating, club access, etc. are something some people would be willing to pay for. Might be nice to be able to purchse that with additional miles, too, like an extra 5,000 miles for the perks.
