Maybe everybody knew this but me.... I thought there were no bag fees on award tickets, but I just called Frontier to check.
I was told that if a person checks in on-line 24 hours before the flight for an award ticket, then there are no bag fees. However, if a person shows up at the airport and checks in, then the regular $20 and $30 fee for the first and second bag applies.

Is my understanding correct?
Yes, you are correct. If it is a regular frequent flyer award (in other words, not a CHOICE award requiring additional miles), then the ticket is treated as an Economy Ticket, however, allows for 2 free checked bags when checked in online or at an airport kiosk. If it is a CHOICE award, then the ticket is treated as a Classic Ticket, which also allows for 2 free checked bags regardless of where you check-in.
I don't fly F9 too often so I want to clarify one point - if you have an Economy ticket, not a Classic ticket, you are exempt from checked bag fees if you check in online or at a kiosk. Is that correct?
So you don't need a Classic ticket to avoid checked bag fees. What a classic ticket buys you is 1) a seat assignment at the time of booking, and 2) reduced change fee from $150 to $50. Again, is that correct?

From the airline's website, this is correct only for tickets bought through today. After that, sorry. Fees are fees and the airlines love them. Frontier is no exception!

Not sure.

An economy ticket will subject you to bag fees. The thread refers to FF award tickets. Classic or Classic Plus is the only way around the bag fees at Frontier.
