Smile Dry Spell

I think, for some unknown reason, you win a few at a time and then nothing. I hope you get to get all those wins in and have a great time!

Thumbs up I've won my first sweepstakes! Galapagos Islands!

National Geographic had a sweepstakes going in July. Daily entry. I won 10 days aboard their ship to the Galapagos Island, for 2 people. I just have to pay my airfare to Florida. The side trip to Peru sounds pretty good to add. I asked if I could do a cashout option instead and they said no. I haven't told my hubby yet.. he's going to fret about the cost of the tax on this $13,000 value prize, plus our plane tickets, plus his time away from home/work. Tsk.. silly man. Who cares! I wonder how hot it will be in the Galapagos Islands?

What a super win, LoriW!!! Those National Geographic trips look so enticing I don't know how your husband could turn it down.

Have a wonderful time, and don't forget to post photos.

That depends on your tax bracket. Winnings are reported on your tax return as taxable income.

Congrats LoriW On the great win.
Remember to price out the trip yourself.
Sometimes there is a big difference between the (ARV) they quote and the (FMV) fair market value the price you can declare on your taxes even if the 1099 is for the (ARV) value.

We have our date for our Tanzania safari! Sep 15,
We have our visas and shots
Flying NW KLM FNT-DTW-AMS-JRO over 16,000 RT. With the new DL credit card I have double miles till the end of the year. That will give me 32,000 plus Mrs Twobyte will get 16,000 for a total of 48,000 miles for the two of us.

Have a wonderful trip, twobyte. And don't forget to take lots and lots of photos. Some of us are reduced to enjoying these wins vicariously - lol!

Thank you twobyte for your advice. I shall be sure to check that part out about the price variance.

Back in 2006, I won the American Way Magazine Road Warriors MVP contest. Well, I was one of the 5 finalists anyway. I won a trip to Arizona with the wife for the photo shoot for the magazine which was truly awesome. We won a 5 day trip to Hawaii, and two years of free wireless via T-Mobile. Oh, and also a laptop computer. Overall, it was the fame of being in the magazine I guess.
