It may be too late to help the original poster, but I find that searching amazon.co.uk and amazon.fr usually turns up what I am looking for, significantly cheaper than any of the local French-language bookstores. I have had orders arrive as quickly as the following day, although typically it takes about 2-3 days (regardless of whether the books are coming via the .co.uk or the .fr site)

Amazon.com is another choice, but the long shipping times from the US usually deter me -- unless it is something that I absolutely can't find via one of the European sites, I stick with .co.uk or .fr, depending on which is cheaper for the given product.

That is what I found too. Price on Amazon.fr/uk is just about half of what W. H. Smith charges on average basis.

"He robbed £1000 from the petrol station in Brooklyn according to Crown Prosecutor The Honourable Trevor Tate-Lyle."

That would be poor English in the UK - let alone in the US.
