For now, the strike only involves nationwide rail transportation (not bus and subway)
But there is still time for others to join

It won't be a "total" meltdown as in '95, but still some lines will have a slow down.

Tell me about it, I have tickets to the Opera for the 26, I asked if I can change them to the 28, sorry no, everyone working at the Opera is on strike the 28.

Staying with the 26. Life in France.

Strikes/demonstrations currently block traffic in Marseille and surrounding cities. It should be pretty much the same up north.

Not really. Manny strikes are already in place whereas other workers will join later this week. They are somewhat orchestrating the whole thing to maximize discomfort to the people.

According to AF just 15% of flight (only) from ORY should be cancelled.

By law they can't do that. They learnt that from a month long transportation strike and the Sarko law. Here is the list:

Independant workers and fully privately hired workers can pretty much strike in France whenever it pleases them (They need a proper reason though and can't strike because the PSG/OM lost against another club).

The SNCF employees have a particular status as ex-civil servants. So are the employees of many ferries. IIRC ATC employees are stil civil servants. Those all need to give advanced notice in order to strike.

Yesterday might have been calm in the air and on most train routes and roads, but there have been many, quite violent strikes/demonstrations all over France.

For all you folks more conversant with the situation on the ground in France - I am booked to fly LHRCDG with AF on 19MAY and then take the TGV to Avignon on 20MAY. What are the chances of my travel being disrupted? Thanks

You ought to arrive at your destinations, but count on delays. Especially on the 19th. Make sure you have both the AF and SNCF apps on your phone and setup notifications for your bookings. If you have AF or ST status, that will help so you don't get bumped in case some of the LHR flights are cancelled.
