Midpriced Paris hotel?

There are a lot of threads in the sticky about luxury hotels, or geared to specific chains.

I'm looking for a smaller, authentically Paris hotel in a decent location that doesn't cost more than about EUR 150-200/night. It doesn't need to be over-the-top luxury, just clean and nice, with en suite bathrooms and air conditioning.

I've seen some nice-looking sales on JetSetter, but nothing jumps out at me from their current selections.

Can someone recommend a few places?

Thanks!

In the Forum sticky compiled by nicholas there are several threads noted about budget hotels:

Budget hotels - promo/discounts
Very Paris, Very Budget!
Cheap lodging in paris
Paris - cheap accomodation?
Paris hotel suggestions?
Decent but cheap place to stay in--or near--Paris?

Bed & Breakfast - Paris
Paris! Hostels?
paris budget hotels?
promo/discount for paris hotels?

Cheers.

Yes, I saw those. They are all for cheap hotels (half what I'm looking to spend), not midrange. There doesn't seem to be any thread about midrange hotels, just cheap and luxury.

So my question still stands.

Why not stay at a Holiday Inn and earn points? There are a bunch in Paris that meet your requirements.

from venere.com, one can find a number meeting that description in the 1,5,6 arrond. a number of them require steps, are tiny, and some have bathrooms built for the imagination. i think they are usually considered a 3*.

We *loved* our stay at the Hotel Brittanique:

Wonderful staff. Incredible location (just across the street from the Chatelet Metro station). One block from the river. Beautifully appointed rooms (small, but it's Paris).

If it has to be a charming boutique, this is my favorite. Right at the Luxembourg gardens. http://www.les-jardins-du-luxembourg.com/

Sounds like any 3 star will suit you. There are literally a few hundred of these in Paris, depending on season, rates ranging from 125-175E per night. It's hard to recommend because to narrow down the list I would need some more criteria from you-- area, style, time of year.

Just for starters, here is a very decent 3 star near the Pompidou in the 3rd:

Or in the 7th, a different environment, very quiet, lots of expensive antique shops:

Or a ton of other 3 star places in Paris.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. I booked Stimpy's suggestion of the Hotel du Jardin Luxembourg for our first weekend there. I'll now check out some of the other suggestions for the following weekend.

5arr Options

We've stayed at a couple in the 5arr...Abbatial St Germain and their near-by sister hotel (I'm forgetting the name at this time...should be on their site). Both in your price range...especially if you book multiple stay nights on line...decent sized rooms with AC, nice locations ( we thought so at least), clean and nice staff. We'd definitely stay there again.

I am really looking forward to my stay in the Five Hotel in August. If you are a single traveller it can be cheaper than the EUR150 rate too.
