Hi GF,

I don't think you're breaking any rules of the programs, but using a BP that has a different FFP than your Elite card may raise an eyebrow at some of the lounges I've visited!

The procedure at AMS (on eco tix) is: Scan BP; press some keys on PC; scan FB card in a different machine; press some more keys; wait a short while, looking at the screen thoughtfully, then, "Welcome (back) Sir(e), please enjoy ..."

Travelling on biz tix: Scan BP then, "Welcome (back) Sir(e), please enjoy ..."

Good luck,
-- H

I think you are right on both points: (1) it will raisean eyebrow or two but (2) it is not breaking any rule. As such, I think it is great: they will have to let you in but will be bound to ask why on earth you want to accrue on DL and not on the programme where you have elite status. At which point you can answer them 'sorry, that is not possible!' Hopefully, some people here and there will thus be reminded of what a rubbish programme FB has become...

The situation at AF-KL is turning nasty financially , and conversations with staff suggest that they are now widely expected some social plan involving a decrease in the work force in months to come. It is extremely sad and of course not only the case for AF-KL but I still believe they would be better of if they tried to mobilise - rather than antagonise - their elites. At least, this is what 90%+ of other airlines are thinking at the moment. The predictions of fellow FT-ers that the FB collapse would be trend setting have so far not been verified and neither BA nor LH - AF/KL's two main direct competitors - have dared to cut FF benefits in any way or make it any harder to reach elite status. Far from it, for instance BA has now extended two bag policy to all flights for their silver and gold members while restricting it to 1 on most flights (including Europe-North America) to non elite members.

never any problem for me on NW, DL, KL, AF ... I don't think there is a rule preventing you from doing this.

With renewed thanks to kgisborne for having pioneered this sort of letter and reported his successful outcome, I can report similar success in getting the 'pre-April' miles credited on our accounts for the flights which we had bought prior to the moment the new rates were announced. I sent a 'real' letter and actually haven't received an answer yet, but the earnings have clearly been changed (very quickly) by whoever read it. Funnily enough, in our case, this was mostly achieved by our helpful FB CS representative entering 'fake' booking classes for our trips (typically K or B!) so that we'd receive the 100% miles we were supposed to get at the time. A crafty solution to correct our earnings. If anybody was in any doubt as to the impact of the post-1 April changes, the correction resulted in my partner and myself earning approximately 25,000 extra LEVEL miles (I'm not even counting the award miles!) each (not least on AF V, T, and Z class or NW K class).

What does this mean in English? What is the difference between class W and R? Does this mean it is no longer possible to book an award seat in AF First class?

On (1) no difference at all, just letters (but 'E' was getting really confusing, it means 3 or 4 different things!), on (2) indeed, it has now been impossible for non elite members since 1 April. Sadly, it is impossible for the rest of us (elite/elite plus) to get it under 'normal' rewards too, only flex awards that cost a completely ridiculous fortune!

Alitalia within Europe

I just realised that economy class with AZ within Europe does not earn any FB miles under any circumstances

http://www.airfrance.it/X01/it/local...neID=140uftug0

I am gobsmacked, is it really the case ?

Before April fool, AZ was my favorite way to top up my account.

The long haul/European difference is only for business. The classes below earn the same 0, 50, 100% in European and long haul contexts.

Thx makes sense, this FB presentation is far from being crystal clear.

Letter to the management

Do you remember that comment form that was available next to the useless video presentation when the changes were introduced? I sent a comment but never received a reply, did anyone here hear something back?

Are you serious? Of course they will not reply - that would mean they care!

Of course not. But I did use the feedback from a number of times (they must be out of print now because I remember the name of the old CEO on them).

On three occasions, I added another complaint or comment in the form. In response, I got two calls back where we discussed both the complaint and the FB changes.

Response was that they certainly didn't want to see me leave (but that there was little they could do about it). Complaints were handled flawlessly.

I just called to try and upgrade from Premium Voyageur to Affaires: impossible. One can upgrade from Y or B (and K if the ticket is purchased abroad she said) but not from A, S or W. I would understand for class A maybe, but I would like S and W to be upgradeable. Well it does not help them, as usual...
The website says one can upgrade from Alize to Affaires but does not mention Premium Voyageur.
