So I've read through several pages of threads and have browsed the KLM/AF websites and am trying to decide if I should register with FB and use this program for the future. Let me explain my thoughts; I'd love to have opinions from some current members.
I'm a DL FO, I live in the Dayton-Cincinnati area, and I fly mostly mostly for leisure. I actually fly NW more than DL. I'll likely fly to Europe 2-3 times this year in addition to my domestic USA travel. I already have 14 segments and about 16000 miles booked for January but am unlikely to keep this pace up. I think I should hit 30 segments without difficulty and would probably be able to hit 60 if I worked at it.
One of my good friends happens to be Irish and I would be able to use an Irish address to avoid the USA restrictions placed on FB.
The advantages to switching as I see it:
Easier to get Gold/Plat status (this seems to be the most important)
Gold status would give me Sky Team Elite
Would still get upgraded on NW flights
More access to lounges when traveling
Awards cost less points with FB?
Downsides as far as I can see:
No DL upgrades currently
No free domestic luggage (although I almost never check bags)
Nasty 25% mile rates for NW V fares
Flying without status until I hit the required threshold
Any thoughts from the FB vets? My largest concern would be that the new DL gets rid of the free upgrades for FB members, or maybe they drop them to the bottom of the list. A secondary concern is regarding segments: they will accrue on any fare that earns miles, even if only 25% miles, correct?
I'm still uncertain about which way to go, although I am strongly considering FB just for the ease of getting top level status.
Thanks for any advice you might have.
