Exclamation End of regular AF Espace Premiere awards, new booking classes for elites from 25OCT09

AF is removing the regular / "classic" first class awards for all journeys from 25OCT09 (the start of the 2009/2010 winter schedule).

Only elite members will retain the ability to redeem their miles for AF first class awards, but only at double miles with the "flex scheme".

Also, booking classes for elite awards will change from 25OCT09:

W class (long-haul coach award for elites) will become R class
E class (business award for elites on the USA/Canada/Tahiti routes) will become M class

This is really long-term planning. Any source?
Mileage for F class Classic awards have just increased dramatically. You mean that elite members will have the doubtfull 'privilege" to use 400 000 miles for an awrd to Hong Kong? If that is true, AF could as well directly remove their F class, as it currently is mostly populated by awards and opup.

That's the way it's going to be. You have to be elite, and then you have the priviledge to use tons of miles if you really want that F class seat.

Either the A380 will bring a product along the lines of the SQ Suites, or this is simply one of the worst devaluations of AF's frequent flier program.

Even if they would have the SQ seat, they still have AF personal....

I am afraid that brunos is right, since October 1st, CDG-HKG-CDG is 200,000 miles in A (Europe 1 - Asia 2). Next year, it will be 400,000 then.
Pretty scary actually!

If the FFPs can't provide top-tier any new benefoits to better differentiate from lower/no tier members, this is a great opportunity to continue to give people the INCENTIVE to aspire to attain Platinum status- EXEMPT us from all these clawbacks you have mentioned.

Let Plats continue to have upgrades with a wider fare basis, don't charge double miles for F, no baggage fees.

If they can't improve, then at least keep the status quo for top tier.

this is outrageous. CDG-JFK for 150k one-way plus $200 in taxes
Why did they first announce the changes to the miles required and a few weeks later come with the next bad news? I could understand the move to exclude non-Elites to make sure people don't just transfer MR points and get to fly F ... but hit your PEs again? Do they think we have no other options?

Once again AF are finding a way to alienate their best customers. I'm that much closer to dumping FB for good if all this non-sense turns out to be true and they don't start offering something worthwhile for Plats.
