I was going to start on the iron tablets given to try and see if I'll be able to donate eventually, but went down with a very bad flu and still clearing the last of its symptoms. Better safe than sorry, so that's a minimum of 3 more weeks before trying.
The only consolation is that the local AB blood supply is currently at a healthy level (as of 5 Oct).
Last time I gave (a few weeks ago) - left hang test for hemoglobin level was below the threshold.
Then she did the right hand - and it was above. I just looked confused (was the watch on my right wrist pulling all the hemoglobin molecules to my right hand!!).
Next time have them test your other hand and see what hemoglobin level you get.

Last time donating was two weeks ago, in Bangkok, at the National Blood Center of the Thai Red Cross. One pint of good O-neg .. they REALLY appreciate this blood as less that 1% of Thais are O-neg. So when an O-neg person is in need of blood, it is in very short supply!
Any O-neg people traveling in Thailand can donate (and any other blood-type too). The folks at the National Blood Center are great and helpful.
