Lunch at or near TPA
I have a 5 hour layover in TPA next week. I am looking for a place to grab lunch at or near the airport since I will not have a car. I am looking for pub food.
I'd rather not take a cab so somewhere near a hotel where I can take the hotel shuttle would be great.
I get in at 1:30 and leave at 6:30 on US. How is security on a Tues afternoon?
There aren't too many places that offer "pub fare" near to TPA. However, there are a few hotels (like the Marriott Westshore) which are relatively close to 2 different malls. Honestly, you might be better off taking a cab to those places.... less hassle and shorter ride (vs. waiting 20-30 min for shuttle, then walking a bit to go eat)!
Both Westshore Mall and International Square are within a 5 minute cab ride from TPA. International has a much better restaurant selection and is better people watching for your layover. Bamboo Club is especially tasty.
The International PLAZA with its Bay Street area is your best bet.
You could take the National Rental Car shuttle to their lot and walk its not that far or instead there is a newish Renaissance Hotel which is actually part of the mall complex so I am sure they have an airport shuttle.

I will have 8 hours lay over in TPA for my MR on 10/31 Sunday.
I will probably take shuttle (Hotel or rental car) and walk to International PLAZA for lunch and look around. If nothing special may back to US lounge (using Priority Pass).

You could try the Best Western Bay Harbour Hotel - 7700 W Courtney Campbell Cswy, Tampa, FL, The causeway crosses the bay just south of the airport off to Clearwater. THe website does say this place has a shuttle. You can then walk over to Castaways Restaurant or even Whiskey Joes for dining along the water. Castaways and Wiskey Joes can occasionally be found on the Rewards network too for more miles.
There is a beach next to Castaways. Warning though, this beach, Ben T Davis can be closed because of bad water (lots of runoff ups the bacteria count). You will not notice it at Castaways, but you may show up hoping to swim and find the beach closed. Still go to Castaways though
FLgrr, you are a bearer of great news. On my last visit to Tampa (September 2008) I was disappointed to find out that Whiskey Joes was closed down following storm damage, having been there many times on business trips and vacations. It's great to hear that it has reopened in its slightly different location. That's a perfect reason for coming back to Tampa and Florida soon.
