Getting to the FLL Boat Show

So I just paid lot of money to see these yachts. My flight change fee and the cost of an extra nights stay! Anyways, I am staying at the FLL Airport Hilton and I need to figure out how to get there. They can arrange a shuttle, but they have to have at least 4 people. I also would prefer NOT to take a taxi. The best I have figured out so far is the shuttle van to the airport then hop the bus to downtown. But anyone have a better idea?

First, welcome to our fair city

The main display for the yachts is not in the downtown area, but rather in the Bahai Mar area, very close to the International Swimming Hall of Fame (a few blocks from where A1A (the oceanfront road) intersects Las Olas Boulevard.

For lowest-cost transport between your hotel and the display areas, here are a couple of "plans" that would involve buying a $3.00 all-day pass for Broward County Transit (BCT) busses. The all-day pass is bought on board any bus, exact change (coins or currency) needed:

Plan 1 - have hotel shuttle take you to the airport. At the airport, catch BCT bus route # 1 NORTHBOUND. Get off bus at corner of Federal Highway amd SE 17th Street (called the 17th Street Causeway). Cross street, and transer to eastbound BCT bus Route # 40, which will take you diectly to Bahai Mar.

Plan 2 (what I would do) Exit the hotel, and walk west on Griffin Road (under the I-95 overpass) about two blocks, until you reach the Dania Beach Tri-Rai station. Take BCT Route #6 NORTHBOUND to the end of the line, which is the BCT Central Terminal (a central junction facility for most BCT lines). At Central Terminal, catch Route 40 EASTBOUND to Bahai Mar. This routing is a little longer geographically, but offers the advantage of ony one transfer.

Thanks - I was thinking of getting downtown so I could pick up the water shuttle there to the show. But it sounds like the bus would be much cheaper!

So I ended up taking the route 6 bus. The hotel shuttle dropped me off at the tri-rail station, but it is definitely walkable distance. Brought me into the main bus transfer center, from there I walked 3 blocks south to take the water shuttle right to the Bahaia. You could buy your ticket right there and the shuttle was free. Took me quite a while, though.

I ended up taking the boat back to Las Olas, but ended up eating there and was too exhausted to deal with the bus, so I caught a cab. Cost me $20, but it was a lot easier.

The water taxis seem like a lot of sense around here, I wish they extended them a little more.

As you know BCT has been already increase the bus fare due to operations cost. Now, BCT will have you to payable the bus is:

Quote:
Regular One Way Fare
$1.50
Reduced One Way Fare*
$.75
All Day Pass
$3.50
All Day Reduced Pass*
$2.50
You have to pay regular pass $3.50 all-day on Broward County Transit. Because all reasonable fares has already increase is on effective Oct. 1, 2009. If you choose to pay Tri-Rail ticket at vending machines and if you select to push the button to says transfer to BCT.

Thanks for this update - the last time I used the BCT bus (a number of months ago) the all-day pass had just been raised from $2.50 to $3.00.

BCT service has decently good coverage of the county (the eastern part especially). Service is more frequent during weekday commute hours; if traveling at night, check the schedules carefully to see when in the evening the service ends (there is no uniform "last bus of the evening" time).
