Young people aged 12–17 years, who are travelling alone, are offered the same escort service that is available for those aged 5–11.
Pasted from : http://www.finnair.com/finnaircom/wp...BIS9lbl9OTw!!?
anyways......,. i cant get it. does that mean its OPTIONAL for me to have a guardian?

On international flights, children over 5 years of age are allowed to travel without a UM reservation, provided that they are accompanied by a family member, who is at least 16 years of age or a non-family member, who is at least 18 years of age, as an escort provided by the child's guardian.

Hey excuse me it is NEVER a good idea to send your child off with out any consent forms these days. Kids flying internatioanlly are checked to make sure they are not being abducted so it is always prudent to have some sort of consent or you might see them stop the child from leaving the country.

My kids flew alone on AY when they were 13 or less, but never with transfers (in your case several transfers) Even though HEL is easy to navigate, you'd have to go through immigration, etc + WAW is a bit less easy to navigate - I'd advise to go fo the UM service.
I know it's uncool to have the UM bag hanging around your neck and an airline nanny taking you everywhere, but think of the bright side - you'll jump queues most everywhere
[Slightly OT, in HEL the parents can accompany their offspring to the gate (in Schengen area no problem, as anybody can enter, ex-Schengen area you'll need a form to pass immigration + obviously a passport or some other ID - the check-in agent can give you that form)]

# Children between the ages 5–11 may be accepted onboard as children travelling alone (UM, Unaccompanied Minor). An appropriate UM reservation must be made when making the flight reservation.

I guess on domestics the 13 year old will speak the same language as everyone else around, so that is less of a problem than on international flights. For international flights I am surprised that AY allows this.

Got THIS reply...
Sir,
Thank you for contacting Finnair eBusiness Help Desk.
You can travel alone. When flying with Finnair, the age limit for travelling alone is 12. I do recommend that your parents give you a letter of consent for the travel, just in case. You probably won't need it, but since you are pretty young traveller to travel all by yourself such a long way, I think a letter of consent from your parents would be a good idea to take with you to make sure all border crossings go smoothly.
Best wishes
