Finnair status?

Sorry to ask a rookie question- I am currently a BA bronze but after the changes looks like I am unable to retain my status. I fly minimum 24 flights a year LON-HEL route + 1 long haul return to Japan. Would this amount of flights have me better off signing with Finnair Plus as flights are all Finnair or BA?
BA bronze seems pretty useless now anyway.. Last 2 months Finnair has taken me off group 1 boarding which it always used to give me. So am not sure if there are any benefits to be had beyond collecting Avios/miles when you are at below silver level. Any advice appreciated thanks.

20 Finnair or OW flights a year or 30000 plus points... Silver, currently boarding group 2, business check in counters, fast track in LHR and HEL security, extra luggage.

The details can be found here... https://www.finnair.com/gb/gb/finnai...s-finnair-plus

If all flights are in Economy, you will only reach Silver, so not really a benefit compared to current situation. If the longhaul would be in Business, and the shorthauls in Value, then you would be quite close to 80k points, meaning Gold, meaning Sapphire. Then you would be better off.

Some Pro tickets would further complicate it.

Unless you always fly cheapest Economy, you can't be very far away from Silver on BA? Or?

Not far from renewing bronze but as only planning LON HEL returns until next year will not get enough points. I am missing one flight's points though eve though I flew it and BA number is on boarding card but they never rewarded the points. I just joined Finnair after your info and am flying my first flight tomorrow. A few months with no status then but by next spring should get status and happily ever after I hope.

Since OP says he won't re-qualify for BAEC bronze, AY silver surely is better than BAEC blue?

Sure, silver isn't a wonder of perks but it is obtainable on segments regardless of ticket type, so it is within reach.

One possibly valuable perk if OP is on cheapest tix is that AY silver will get him a checked bag for free even on handbag only fares on AY flights. A bronze card won't do that. (And no card in the world will give him a bag on a BA HBO flight...)

Just take note that AY flights to LHR are according to AY's own band based schemed, while BA flights are distance based - check out the earning-% for different fare classes.

AFAIK if you go for AY+, you'd be better off flying AY to LHR.

The thing is Silver status isn't as valuable because of the cut lounge benefit. But then again it's a good benefit for Gold and higher so that they can enjoy an empty lounge.

One of my most favorite perks of the AY Plus program are the upgrades for Gold and Platinum.

Still, Silver is definitely better than nothing and you also get the benefits on other OW airlines.

You sure are right. Fast Track and Priority check in make difference.

and outside FT it's difficult to achieve for many with Gold being in the realm of science fiction. (Plat is not even on their radar) I got collegues who are excitedly telling me that "now I made it to silver" just to add "just when the lounge privilege went away"

Being the diplomat I like to think I am, I keep mum about my collection of top tier cards (though quite a few knows about it, as I guested them )

Indeed!

I know someone, who after some FT coaching quickly advanced in tiers, only to realise the awkwardness of being called to board before the boss on a work trip. And even if ignoring the call for diamond boarding, the boarding pass scanner makes a happier noise for diamonds, which the boss naturally knows about.

Status is a tricky thing!

It's crazy. I still vividly remember the days as AY Lifetime (or so I thought) Basic thinking even Silver status was way out of my reach. I only thought the best of the most successful businetic people earn status and especially that Plats are some kind of millionaires.

Well, after careful planning of getting Silver and executing the plan I quickly realised moving between tiers was really easy and actually quite affordable.

Lesson #1 - avoid traveling with your boss on the same plane if (s)he has no/low status. This way not only the prio-boarding awkwardness is a non-issue, but also "Why were you turning left at the plane door?" "Why were you escorted to your seat?" type questions are avoided (on longhaul)

Similar (though easier) in hotels, where both pax are paying the same rate, but one is getting the suite and all the attention a Diamond/Plat card brings, while the non-status boss is mainly ignored.
