New codeshares with FlyBe

I didn't see anything on AY website, but from September 15 AY is codesharing with FlyBe flights from MAN to following places:
  • Aberdeen
  • Belfast City
  • Edinburgh
  • Exeter
  • Glasgow
  • Inverness
  • Isle of Man
  • Jersey
  • Newquay
  • Southampton.

Wow,
I think that AY has now more UK destinations than any other Oneworld airline including BA. I wonder why AY does not code-share with BA btw LHR-LBA and LHR-NCL. The biggest hole in AY's UK destinations is Birmingham, which van support some Gulf airlines. if anything can be learnt from other code-share destinations, it can't be cheap to fly from HEL to these BE destinations.

Why not nonstop flights at least to EDI and GLA? Some other listed destinations are also very attractive holiday spots for Asian travellers...

I dunno - SK used to have EDI as a summer destination, but dropped even that. Pain in the perse having to go via LHR

i agree there should be direct flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Birmingham. Dublin has mow returned to the toute map. These non-Schengen destonations would not add congestion at HEL because no passport inspection is required if connectingto/from Asia and no security when flying to Asia. Gulf carriers have been succesful but may be the demand is mainly for Pakistan/India. However, there should be some demand to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore if less so to Japan, China and Korea. But I'm only guessing.

Which route SAS has not dropped. Well, even AY used to fly nonstop to EDI. It lasted only two summer seasons but there were only two flights a week so it was not really directed to Asian passengers.

Edinburgh and Inverness should be very popular with the Anglophone (or should we say Celtic-phone) Japanese.

The Isle of Man, Jersey, Newquay in beautiful Cornwall and even Southampton are also rather interesting destinations both for business (offshore investors) and leisure.

Glasgow is maybe more of a pure biz city but might also have enough connections to Asia to justify a one stop connection there.

I'd say the number of Celtic/Gaelic/Welsh/Irish speaking Japanese is minuscule. But if you meant Anglophile/Celtophile it's a whole different affair.

Must have been after a few Anglo style beers...

In any case, AY shouldn't be too constrained into agreements with BA. There is potential in the UK regions that other airlines have managed to tap quite well (KLM and Lufthansa come to mind)

Am I correct in assuming these are operated by Flybe UK and thus not earning on OW FFprograms?

Flight numbers seems to be placed in the 85xx series, wich is outside the normal codeshare series. The range AY8100-AY8700 is supposed to be considered as AY operated and marketed when it comes to earnings, according to AY+ webpages. But they are certainly codeshares with a non-OW-affiliated airline, so still thinks the OW earnings are far from certain.
