Finnair is replacing slanted lie-flat J class seats with horizontal lie-flat seats, the Zodiak UK Vantage, on its long-haul fleet.
For more information, see Finnair's website here.

Overall upgrade program status
As of 05DEC14 the following have the new horizontal seats in J:
  • 57% of the 343 fleet (4 of 7 aircraft)
  • 100% of the 333 fleet (8 of 8 aircraft)
  • equivalent to 80% of the long haul fleet (12 of 15 aircraft)

Routes with horizontal full-flat business class seat
As of the dates below, all flights on listed routes will normally be performed by aircraft with horizontal full-flat seat in business class. Routes not listed will mainly be served by the older A340s or a mix of old & new, supply allowing.

2014-04-01 - NRT, JFK
2014-05-01 - PEK, ICN
2014-06-01 - PVG, KIX, NGO and HAN (seasonal)
2014 winter - HKG (seasonal) *)

*) Original press release stated HKG full-flat from 2014-06-01. Some flights are indeed scheduled with new J, but current info on AY website says HKG full flat only during winter season.

Please note that AY can and will swap aircrafts due to operational reasons, and there is no guarantee a certain route will be served by a certain aircraft. It is a very small fleet and any technical issue not resolved in a few hours will lead to equipment changes, which will have a domino effect throughout the fleet.

So what is the guarantee then..? Compensation? There must be something.

Sorry. For some reason I don't see the wiki at the tops of some threads on iPad or iPhone.
Thanks.

Aha, no problem.

Oh, yes there is certainly something offered. Their apology:

They actually have removed the word "Guarantee" now, but it was heavily used in all previous communications.

IB A330 is going to operate JFK route from 24th to 26th Oct.

AY5/6 operated by Iberia for Finnair.

From 27th and 29th AY A340 to JFK and this is rare.

AY seat maps are updated, showing both the refurbished J and the new Y comfort section.
Included links to them in the wiki post

Now it's done, OH-LTN is back and heading to CKG.

All 8 A330's and 4 340's now with full flat seats in C.

I'm considering AY business again. For MEL - (SIN or HKG) - HEL in August 2015 (AY82 or AY70 and AY81 or AY69). All are listed as A340.
Will any of these be with the new hard product? I don't paticularly like the older "angled-flat" seat and the new seat looks good and worth a try. The Wiki wasn't clear and the Finnair site wasn't much help.
Thanks.

Not sure what you are missing in the wiki?
SIN and HKG are not "guaranteed" full flat. It doesn't mean they never get full flat, but that you really can't know in advance.
If you can access the seat map of your future flights, you can get an indication of what plane if planed for your flights. If J is 6 abreast, then it is the older ones.

Now, august is 5 months away and many thing can happen until then.
