Maybe they just wait until it's too late for pax to start demanding re-routing as there are no more options available...most likely they know about the delay much, much earlier than they tell the public..

Probably true they have set a cut-off-time when they make the decision.

I have put together a list of the recent delays of AY69. Most of the time they have announced a severe delay very late, despite they very well know there is trouble.

I don't think there are many rerouting options same night for passengers who are in HEL. Of course they can fill the SIN flight but that doesn't really require earlier announcement. Last flights from HEL to European cities with connections to HKG leave around 7-8pm. No, I didn't check which cities have late night flight to HKG. They may be able to reroute some connecting passengers who are not yet in HEL but most likely rerouting means that passenger will be at least as much late as if flying in the morning from HEL.

While that may be true, for some pax it is better to at least be on their way in a plane that is air-worthy than to spend the night in HEL and hope for this plane to be able to take off.

Also, many pax does not have HKG as final destination. When I was on one of these delays, most passengers had to get rebooked on their connecting flight. Re-routing them on SIN or BKK would have helped. Some got delayed more than 1 day to final dest.

Anyone who has access to flight data that can tell what plane individual was scheduled to fly AY 69 on these dates?

Code:
Flight date	Delay (minutes)
2013-05-17	212
2013-05-22	499
2013-05-23	527
2013-06-03	505

2013-08-05	155
2013-08-09	493
2013-08-10	495
2013-08-11	500
2013-08-12	500
(the last 4 being OH-LQG, right?)

Not necessarily options but that won't stop some people asking for those..the later the easier for AY..less time for pax to be angry etc.

Also, if they announce the delay earlier some/many pax won't even make to the airport and are therefore more difficult for AY to control..now they can simply dump them to the cheapest available airport hotel where they have deals and can get them quickly back to HEL if the dep. happens earlier than initially planned..

Controlling masses of people is a true game of art, trust me..

Yes, Sir. This game is called Four in a Row.
And You, delayed with 69 it was AY's another French-second hand-Princess, OH-LQF, right?

Re-routing is hard to do when all Asian flights are full during the summer season.

Well, one must be impressed. AY69 has been on time 9 times the last 40 days. Must be some kind of record in the wrong end.

Average delay last 40 days is 120 minutes. I guess the #qualityhunters are busy discussing meat free mondays and pocket book exchanges.

Was OH-LTN scheduled for AY61 today?
(that is the only one unaccounted for AFAIK - arrived from ICN the other day)

Just landed from a short haul flight and they just made a short announcement on approach that "all HKG bound pax please contact Finnair ground staff" ... No mention of the huge delay..during the flight the purser talked with one J passenger in more detail and I also heard the staff wondering if the Chinese group travelling in coach had any idea/if they understood the message..lucky ground staff...

Sadly this is the same as they have done all summer. No information given to outstations or flying staff hence no information to pax...
The sad lonely lady working evenings in the transfer center must have been very naughty to get this kind of punishment...

Luckily I was today on board the LQF to HKG exceptionally arriving slightly before the scheduled time. My colleague though did keep on complaining about the service experience and attitude of the on board staff. The entertainment system does not really provide entertainment. I have to agree with his feelings.
