Parking options at Fairmont Calgary, Banff & Lake Louise
Was looking at the steep parking rates at these hotels:
Banff: $25/$33 (self/valet)
Louise: $23/$25 (self/valet)
Calgary: does anyone know?
I was wondering whether there are any other parking options at the hotels or nearby? We'll be there in June and Calgary will be a Friday night if that makes a difference to e.g. on-street parking options.

Reason: Spellling
Valet parking: $37 CAD/night Sunday through Thursday, plus GST, $30 CAD/night Friday and Saturday, plus GST, with unlimited access. (Please park your vehicle in front of the hotel's Main Entrance, on 9th Avenue.)
Please note a parking pass must be request from front desk at the time of check in to qualify for the outlined hotel parking rates.
NOTE: The above rates are applicable ONLY if guest charges parking to their room folio. If guest chooses to pay separately, the following will apply:
$2.50 per half hour up to maximum $20.00 until 6pm. After 6pm another $5.00 is charged until 6am. Nights and weekends are both $6.00.

For the Banff Springs, there is street parking on the road that leads up to the Banff springs that is free (park only on the right side of the street when driving away from the hotel). However, it is sometimes full from all of the people driving up just to get a look at the Banff Springs. If you plan on parking your car for the weekend, there are some residential streets about a 5 minute walk from the Banff Springs that you can park on if the street parking is full.
There is a parking lot near Chateau Lake Louise, again, for day trip visitors (but you can park overnight). It is about 5 minutes to walk to the hotel, and is free. It is through a small, but well travelled trail.
I agree with and have used the same options as CanuckFlyHigh for Banff and Lake Louise, and have never had any problems (including finding a spot in Banff) if you're willing to walk 5 minutes.
As for Calgary, I seem to recall street parking only being metered until 6pm, and then not starting again until 9am on Sat/ Sun (& Sun free in some cases). It just depends how much you hate paying for parking vs the looking/walking/ get up early enough hassle you're willing to deal with. Also FYI, the entrance to the Palliser where you pull up/ drop off is basically non-existent, you just stop curb side and it's generally a complete disaster (taxis double and triple parked, etc), especially if you arrive in rush hour. So again, depending on the time and how tired you are, you might just decide the valet is worth it! I generally fall in the 'hate paying for parking' camp, but here I was verrrryyyyy tempted...

Hybrid Rental t avoid parking charges
My advice for avoiding high parking charges is to rent a hybrid vehicle. Last Aug when I staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs and the Fairmont Lake louise, We paid $40-$50 more and rented a hybrid Camry and avoided 7 nights of paid valet parking at the hotels. Worth looking into to see if they still offer this. Also, I did not book the hybrid online, I bargained at the rental counter.

What does the Hybrid have to do with parking fees?

I was in Banff (at the Fairmont) from 28 Dec 08 to 01 Jan 09 and had no problems any of those days to get street parking on the road leading to & away from the hotel. As other noted, you park as you are leaving away from the hotel.
In addition, I had no problem parking in downtown Calgary on the weekend, and although I didn't stay at a Fairmont (I did Westin), it should be about the same...as long as you don't mind walking a few blocks. That said, I walked at the end of December - so the walk wasn't the most pleasant...but it was well worth saving ~$20 a night!

Thank you, everyone, for the great advice. Sorry, for being so late in replying. Pretty much answered all my questions
I also fall into the "hate to pay for parking and transport" category. I hate it so much I'd do almost anything to avoid it. I'd rather spend the money on food or a nicer hotel.

Most Fairmonts are located in prime locations and not in suburbia. I cant think of one off the top of my head that offers free parking. Jasper Park Lodge may be one of the few but I think they have a paid valet option.
have fun!

Nope. If you are a guest, you park in one of the many (but not enough) parking lots around your cabin. If they are all full (often), you dial 55 and they come pick up your vehicle and park it for you for free.
Ahh.. very timely info! Leaving tomorrow for Vancouver/Banff/Lake Louise and Calgary and wondered about parking in Banff/LL. I was debating renting a car every day and returning it to save $$, especially now the CAD has been rapidly appreciating against the USD.
