confirmed upgrades using suite upgrade certs

I think it would be helpful to create a master list containing the suites to which one can upgrade to using a suite upgrade cert by just calling FPC.

AFAIK each hotel has one or more designated suites that FPC will upgrade us to without any hassle/negotiation, of course itīs always possible to contact the hotel directly (thatīs what I usually tend to do) and see whether they can confirm a better suite and I guess most of us have been upgraded to some spectacular suites every now and then at check-in, but IMO it would be great to have a list of suites one can easily upgrade to by just calling FPC.
Also if youīve have told you canīt upgrade to x suite, this would also be helpful.

Iīd be happy to update this post with any input you may have.

I got a Beach Area Casita Suite when I used a suite upgrade cert in conjunction with a free night cert.

Its good news you've got the upgrade at check-in.. further proof AMEX members who qualified Platinum is getting check-in.. as we know Jarusoba is Centurion Member. I think what Jasper2009 is asking for is guaranteed Suite Categories at time of reservation.

Just to clarify, was your upgrade confirmed in advanced by calling FPC or were you upgraded at check-in?

Concierge told me specifically for Mayakoba.. only the Signature Casita Suite can be booked using the Suite Upgrade Cert.. when inquiring about Beach, Ocean View or Ocean Front Casita, they were unable to upgrade at time of reservation. I wish this policy has changed.. it would make for a way nice vacation.

I got a written confirmation, and verifiable via the fairmont website, that I was confirmed a Beach Area Casita Suite at reservation.

We went there with another couple who are also Centurion members. They did the same thing as we did: booked one night using the WOW promotion (free night comped by Amex, and one night using the Fairmont free night cert, then used a suite upgrade cert to secure an upgrade. My friends were only confirmed a Signature Casita suite while we got a confirmed Beach Area Casita Suite. Before arrival, I emailed the hotel and told them that we know each other we would arrive together. When they checked in, they also got offered the Beach Area Casita suite.

So YMMV, or Ancien Maestro's assumption is correct that Fairmont treats Amex member better.

Amex also has the free upgrade available at check-in for Plat Centurion Members.. by the way you are describing your friends and how they were only confirmed to a Signature Casita Suite.. you must have received an exception by having your upgrade pre-confirmed at reservation in addition to the Wow promotion that you received. Normal course of business.. phoning reservations and getting Beach Casita Suite doesn't happen on a normal course of biz.. even with Centurion Members.. but receiving an additional upgrade at check-in is normal course of biz for centurion members since they received the upgrade at check-in.

Right now I feel like regular Plat members qualifying traditionally are second class citizens.. time to become a Platinum Amex Member and spend less nights at Fairmonts.

But I haven't received any additional upgrades at check-in with the Amex FHR program if I used a suite-upgrade cert and already confirmed an upgrade at reservation time. It makes no difference whether it's a Fairmont property or a Hyatt property.

It's there.. check out the specific hotels and what they offer.. free upgrade and/or free breakfast (usually buffet) and/or early/late check-in/check-out.

An extra data point: Local reservations at the pacific rim will not upgrade to a signature suite. All of the Harbor view suites were sold out so no suite upgrade for me

Did you call the FPC premier/platinum concierge to see what they can arrange for you?

Called the premier desk and said they couldn't upgrade to the signature suite, and none of the standard suites were available. They asked me to call local reservations who also said no upgradable suites available.

I've heard from other FPC plats that PacRim isn't taking suite certs although rooms are booked utilizing suite certs.. they are obviously getting alot of repeat business.

Try some different dates.. if you have to be at a Vancouver Hotel for specific dates, then I would try the Waterfront, Hotel Vancouver, or Fairmont YVR.

PacRim rates are really high in the 300s.. the only deal I see currently is NFAF.
