Mrs. PTravel is currently at SFO, where she was supposed to take the 1:45 flight to SNA. She just called me and told me that the flight was delayed coming in and, because they don't think they can turn it around in time, they may cancel her flight. I'm unfamiliar with LCCs, so I'm not sure what to do in this situation:

1. I suggested that she tell the GA (and, if necessary, the supervisor), that she wanted to be protected on the next flight.

2. I assume Virgin America has no interline agreements with other carriers, so asking to be endorsed over is pointless.

3. This strikes me more as an IDB situation than a weather delay. The plane is here and ready to go, but Virgin America doesn't want to fly it because they have another flight on the route and they don't want to disrupt their schedule further -- instead, they'll just cancel that leg and keep the equipment in SFO for the later flight. To me, that's not the same as a weather delay (if in fact, that's why this flight was late coming in). This appears to be for the convenience of the airline.

Short of buying a walkup fare for Mrs. PTravel on another carrier, any suggestions?

After loyally flying AA since they bought TWA, I decided to have some fun and book a trip on Virgin LAX-JFK to attend a film festival on Long Island.

My flight was flt 416 yesterday (Friday 13th) scheduled departure at 3:30pm. Although I didn't have any bags, I arrived at the airport around 2:15pm just so I could get out of work early.

Virgin was having a bad day. Around 2:45, the flight was delayed 1 hour (4:30pm). No big deal. I left a message with my contact at the festival who was picking me up.

Next, an announcement was made that everyone with a boarding pass with a seat assignment needed to check in at the customer service desk. Apparently their seat map went out and then double assigned seats and had people at more than one seat. With time to kill, it was no big deal. One of the people making the announcement blamed the scenario on Friday the 13th.

As soon as that was finished, the delay moved another hour. With this in mind, I would be arriving at my destination at 2am. There would be no way I could expect a ride that late. I considered rebooking to the next day but since I was flying back on Sunday, my time on the ground would have been less than 24 hours.

I canceled the flight over the phone. The agent informed me that they opened a credit file for me for the ticket price minus $75. I told the agent that as someone who hasn't even flown the airline yet that's a bad move. I canceled the ticket because the airline was having problems not because my plans changed. She was understanding and put me through to some voicemail to leave a message for them. I hope someone actually gets it.

I just feel that if the airline doesn't make this right, I will only use my credit and will go back to booking with AA. I must say everyone I dealt with was very nice and not far from argumentative. What do you think?

Before, they were all $264 for coach, and each day more and more are getting priced at $127. I bought my trip out to FLL in April for $127 each, just waiting now for the return trip to drop. It's interesting that they just don't drop them all that once - there's no rhyme or reason on the drops, i.e. it could be any day, such as Fridays or Sundays, which you would think would be busier.

Hi all,

I have been flying trans cons on AA and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything as I could be flying Virgin.

Leaving aside the differences in product, here is my quick evaluation. Would love to hear if there is anything I am missing:

I fly trans cons in F each week on AA. This earns me ~12,500 miles / RT (Plat bonus + F bonus). Alternatively, I could be flying VA and earning ~9000 pts ($1800 * 5pts). After say, 10 RTs, I will then have 125,000 miles on AA (enough for a great premium international award) or 90,000 pts on VA (enough for a domestic F ticket).

From a points perspective, it seems like AA is the way to go. Anything I am missing here?

Thanks

Around Thanksgiving and as was talked about here fares have plummeted.
